Development of an Open‐Source Algorithm for Automated Segmentation in Clinician‐Led Paranasal Sinus Radiologic Research

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
The purpose of this study was to validate and provide an open‐source segmentation algorithm of paranasal sinus CT scans for the otolaryngology research community. This can be used for further AI‐based analysis and radiomic analysis in future research. ABSTRACT Objective Artificial Intelligence (AI) research needs to be clinician led; however, expertise

Impact of Mask Type on Pharyngeal Opening Pressures During Drug‐Induced Sleep Endoscopy

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
Assessment of the impact of mask type on pharyngeal opening pressures during drug‐induced sleep endoscopy (DISE) is currently lacking. Our study demonstrates that pharyngeal opening pressures at the velum, oropharynx, and tongue base are significantly reduced using nasal vs. full‐face mask techniques.

Mechanisms of Improving Feeding Function With Capsaicin Following Local Anesthesia in Infant Pigs

open access: yesThe Laryngoscope, EarlyView.
With inferior alveolar nerve anesthetization, we found changes in some behavioral variables, as well as a decrease in bolus sizes and improved airway protection. This highlights the tradeoff between feeding efficiency and feeding safety. With capsaicin administration, some behavioral variables were returned to baseline values fully or partially, which ...
