Choristoma is the pathological term for a developmental tumor-like anomaly consisting of tissues foreign to the site at which it is located. A 3-month-old girl with a choristoma of the soft palate is presented. Its occurrence is extremely rare, as shown by a review of the literature.

Idiopathic Palatal Fistula of the Left Soft Palate
Journal of Craniofacial Surgery, 2023Palatal fistulas, often congenital or trauma-induced, are occasionally encountered in the field of plastic surgery. We report a case of a non-medial 3 mm soft palate fistula in a 43-year-old woman, with no apparent trigger or history of local trauma or infection.

A 2-month-old girl presented with a history of intermittent cyanosis and dyspnea after feeding. This was found to be due to a 2 cm long polypoid lesion attached to her soft palate. This was removed and histologic examination showed it to be choristoma. Three years later she remains well with no evidence of recurrence.

AbstractDuring a 10 year period 30 patients with carinoma of the soft palate were treated. There were 22 cases in stages I and II. A curative dose of irradiation was used in 25 cases, fourof whom required surgical salvage. Another five cases were treated by a combined modality of surgery and postoperative radiation. Seven cases had nodal metastases.

Myoepithelioma of salivary glands comprised only 1% of all salivary tumors, most commonly occurring in the parotid gland followed by the minor salivary glands in the oral cavity.
