COVID-19 and China’s Changing Soft Power in Italy [PDF]

open access: yesChinese Political Science Review, 2021
This article investigates how China’s COVID-19 aid efforts affected its soft power in Italy through analyzing data on China’s COVID-19-related aid from Italy’s main national newspapers during the period March–April 2020.

Learning Optimal Fin-Ray Finger Design for Soft Grasping

open access: yesFrontiers in Robotics and AI, 2021
The development of soft hands is an important progress to empower robotic grasping with passive compliance while greatly decreasing the complexity of control. Despite the advances during the past decades, it is still not clear how to design optimal hands

Asymmetric acidic/alkaline N2 electrofixation accelerated by high‐entropy metal–organic framework derivatives

open access: yesCarbon Energy, 2023
High‐entropy materials are composed of five or more metal elements with equimolar or near‐equimolar concentrations within one crystal structure, which offer remarkable structural properties for many applications.

Channelling Soft Power: The Qatar 2022 World Cup, Migrant Workers, and International Image

open access: yesInternational Journal of the History of Sport, 2021
The overarching aim of this study was to examine the role of sport and, in particular, the impact of Qatar’s hosting of the FIFA World Cup in how Qatar has dealt with human rights scrutiny to protect its international image.

Magnetic Array Assisted Triboelectric Nanogenerator Sensor for Real-Time Gesture Interaction

open access: yesNano-Micro Letters, 2021
In human-machine interaction, robotic hands are useful in many scenarios. To operate robotic hands via gestures instead of handles will greatly improve the convenience and intuition of human-machine interaction. Here, we present a magnetic array assisted

Biomimetic assembly to superplastic metal–organic framework aerogels for hydrogen evolution from seawater electrolysis

open access: yesExploration, 2021
Applications for metal–organic frameworks (MOFs) demand their assembly into three‐dimensional (3D) macroscopic architectures. The capability of sustaining structural integrity with considerable deformation is important to allow a monolithic material to ...

Soft Power to Whom? A Critical Analysis of the Publicity Film “CPC (Communist Party of China) is With You Along the Way” in Relation to China’s Soft Power Project [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
The existing literature on China’s soft power is mainly concerned with its success or failure, ignoring the ideological tensions between the Chinese state's international pursuit of soft power and its efforts at reviving the popularity of socialist ...

Gravitational soft theorem from emergent soft gauge symmetries [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
We consider and derive the gravitational soft theorem up to the sub-subleading power from the perspective of effective Lagrangians. The emergent soft gauge symmetries of the effective Lagrangian provide a transparent explanation of why soft graviton emission is universal to sub-subleading power, but gauge boson emission is not.

Metal‐organic framework (MOF) thickness control for carbon dioxide electroreduction to formate

open access: yesCarbon Neutralization, 2023
Decreasing particle size (like thickness) is a common strategy to enhance the activities of catalysts. In this work, we have synthesized two coppers, which are bismuth‐based metal‐organic framework (CuBi‐MOF) catalysts with different thicknesses (134.8 ...

Soft-collinear gravity beyond the leading power [PDF]

open access: yes, 2021
We construct "soft-collinear gravity", the effective field theory which describes the interaction of collinear and soft gravitons with matter (and themselves), to all orders in the soft-collinear power expansion. Despite the absence of collinear divergences in gravity at leading power, the construction exhibits remarkable similarities with soft ...
