Reclamation and soil improvement on ultra-soft soil
Proceedings of the Institution of Civil Engineers - Ground Improvement, 2005In recent years more and more reclamations have been carried out on waste ponds or mine tailing ponds. The deposits in these ponds are ultra-soft and may still be undergoing self-weight consolidation. Reclamation and soil improvement works in these areas are very challenging. They require special attention. Conventional reclamation and soil improvement

Viscosity is in fact a relaxation of the shear stresses over time, which results for constant stress states in a corresponding elastic strain relaxation. In other words, viscosity is a sort of slow plasticity before the Coulomb criterion is reached. Creep settlement can be regarded as one of the viscous soil phenomena, but also the slow movement (a few

Viscoplastic Modeling of Soft Soils
2020First, a one-dimensional elastic viscoplastic model is developed based on the experimental results of strain rate dependency in oedometer tests. Using this model, the coherence of strain rate dependency, creep, and stress relaxation is established. Then, the model is extended for structured clays by accounting for the effect of interparticle bonds.

Cyclic consolidation of soft soils
2013Cyclic consolidation of soils takes place during a multitude of geotechnical applications: besides vehicle and traffic loads, cyclic loading also plays an important role for pile driving processes and the dimensioning of foundations, e.g. for offshore windcraft plants.
