Quantification of ASFV DNA and RNA in Ornithodoros Soft Ticks
Molecular biology methods are highly sensitive to detect the genome of pathogens and to study their biology. Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and reverse transcription followed by a polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR) permit the detection of the presence and the replication of African swine fever virus in soft ticks.

International Journal for Parasitology, 1996The effects of photoperiod on the feeding, development and quiescent behavior of the burrow-dwelling soft tick, Ornithodoros turicata (Dugès) were investigated. Ticks were assigned randomly to either continuous darkness (DD), a short-day photoperiod (L:D 10:14), a long-day photoperiod (L:D 14:10) or constant light (LL).

Journal of Insect Physiology, 1980Abstract In the spermatophore of soft ticks spermine has been found in the semen, as well as in the proteinous sacs, at much higher concentration. The spermine can be seen under the microscope to form needle-like crystals which are shown to be spermine phosphate. This is the first time that spermine has been reported in the Arthropoda.

A New Ligation Technique for Soft Ticks (Acari: Argasidae)
Journal of Medical Entomology, 1988A new technique is described for the ligation of soft ticks using standard office staples. The technique was applied to Ornithodoros parkeri . The method is simple and easy; it results in complete separation of the tick body and causes low mortality.
