In the assessment of patients with soft tissue complaints, it is important to consider infectious etiologies in the differential diagnosis, especially in immunocompromised hosts. The exact categorization of some bacterial infections of the soft tissues may be difficult.

The visualized soft tissues on chest CT include the breast tissue, muscles, and subcutaneous tissue and should be viewed on mediastinal window settings on axial images (Level 40, Window 400). I recommend beginning with the right side and scrolling from superior to inferior and then left side inferior to superior.

Soft tissue sarcomas in infants and children differ from those in adults in clinical presentation, histology, and response to therapy. For rhabdomyosarcoma, the most common sarcoma in children, each primary site has special characteristics that affect both treatment programs and survival rates.

We describe a case of a novel soft tissue neoplasm, composed of a monotonous population of cells. Their cytoplasm was parked with mitochondria, and had no immunohistochemical or ultrastructural evidence of differentiation. The neoplasm, located within the thigh of a 50-year old man, was well-circumscribed but unencapsulated.

Several infectious processes ranging in severity from mild to overwhelming that affect the soft tissues are reviewed. Superficial infections such as impetigo, erysipelas, cellulitis, and subcutaneous bursitis are common and, for the most part, can be easily treated.

Soft tissue sarcomas are a heterogeneous group of non-epithelial extraskeletal malignancies accounting for about 8 % of childhood cancers. Half of the cases are represented by rhabdomyosarcoma, a typical embryonal tumor of childhood, characterized by high grade of malignancy and strong propensity to metastasize, but also by a general good response to ...

A case of massive peripheral ameloblastoma is presented. The lesion had been present for many years and had apparently spread by direct extension. There has been no recurrence after two years of follow-up. Proper oropharyngeal continuity has been maintained by the placement of a maxillary prosthesis.

Soft tissue sarcomas are rare, with some 1200 new cases in the UK each year; clinicians outside specialist centres see no more than a few. They involve principally the soft connective tissues of the limbs, limb girdles and retroperitoneum, and also occur in the head and neck, and abdominal and chest walls.

Sarcoma is a cancer that arises from cells of mesenchymal origin, such as bone, cartilage, muscle, fat, vascular, or hematopoietic tissue. It is a very rare form of cancer with over 50 histologic subtypes. This chapter discusses selected individual subtypes of sarcomas and characteristics specific to each one. It will broadly go over molecular biology,

There is a wide range of applications for soft tissue replacement in the biomaterials field. Vascular grafts and stents, heart valves, artificial skin, and intraocular devices are among the most important since they tackle widespread pathologies of the vascular system, cosmetic needs, and ocular surgery (Silver and Doillon, 1989).
