Can malignant and inflammatory pleural effusions in dogs be distinguished using computed tomography [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Computed tomography (CT) is the primary imaging modality used to investigate human patients with suspected malignant or inflammatory pleural effusion, but there is a lack of information about the clinical use of this test in dogs.

3D In Vitro Glioma‐Neuron‐Astrocyte Biomimetic Composites Recapitulate Key Molecular Mechanisms Linked to Glioblastoma Multiforme Pathophysiology

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Glioblastoma multiforme is the most devastating and incurable brain tumor. To better study this disease, a 3D model is developed using a hyaluronic acid‐based hydrogel combined with a multicellular approach. This model recapitulates in vivo brain stiffness, cell‐extracellular matrix and cell‐cell interactions and the tumor's hijacking function with the

Vascular leiomyoma, an uncommon soft tissue extremity lesion: Illustration of MR findings in 2 cases

open access: yesRadiology Case Reports
Vascular leiomyomas are infrequent benign soft tissue neoplasms arising from vascular wall. These lesions are more frequent in females, predominantly seen in lower extremities presenting as slowly enlarging freely mobile palpable soft tissue lesions ...

Clinical, histological and prognostic features of a novel nail-bed lesion of cats: 41 cases [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
There is a distinct subset of lesions arising on the digits of cats, located at or close to the nail-bed epithelium, which are typically composed of proliferative fibroblast-like cells, multinucleate giant cells and areas of osseous metaplasia, but ...

Mesenchymal Stem Cells‐Derived Extracellular Vesicles Mimetics as Osteoinductive Mediators for Bone Healing

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stem cell‐derived nanoghosts (MSC‐NGs) mimic naturally secreted extracellular vesicles (MSC‐EVs) in structure and physicochemical properties but can be synthesized at more translatable yields. As osteogenic agents, MSC‐NGs demonstrate superior outcomes compared to MSC‐EVs.

EWSR1::ATF1 fusions characterize a group of extra-abdominal epithelioid and round cell mesenchymal neoplasms, phenotypically overlapping with sclerosing epithelioid fibrosarcomas, and intra-abdominal FET::CREB fusion neoplasms [PDF]

open access: yes
With the increasing use of next generation sequencing in soft tissue pathology, particularly in neoplasms not fitting any World Health Organization (WHO) category, the spectrum of EWSR1 fusion-associated soft tissue neoplasms has been expanding ...

Strategies to Design and Optimize Artificial Antigen‐Presenting Cells for T Cell Expansion in Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in engineering artificial antigen‐presenting cells (aAPCs) as alternatives to dendritic cells for T cell expansion. Key design principles inspired by the immunological synapse are discussed, with emphasis on strategies for polyclonal and antigen‐specific T cell expansion.
