Diagnostic Software Architectures
1998A critical distinguishing characteristic of architectures for families of embedded systems is their relative need for errordetection and-management. This need can range from extreme, as occurs with nearly all life-rated systems, to nominal, such as might occur with simple, inexpensive toys.

Evaluating Software Architectures
2004Abstract As software systems become increasingly complex, the need to investigate and evaluate them at high levels of abstraction becomes more important. When systems are very complex, evaluating the system from an architectural level is necessary in order to understand the structure and interrelationships among the components of the system.

Software usability architectures
2008 8th IEEE International Conference on Computer and Information Technology, 2008Catering for software usability is no longer an exclusive responsibility of client-side systems, as it is also necessary to consider the content, the network, the user, the device and the natural environment. This necessitates the development of new systems, such as personalisation systems, which can adapt multimedia content and manage shared resources.

SPECIFICATION OF SOFTWARE ARCHITECTURE
International Journal of Software Engineering and Knowledge Engineering, 2000Over the past several years, software architecture representation and analysis has become an active area of research. However, most approaches to software architecture representation and analysis have been informal. We postulate that through formality, the term "architecture" can be precisely defined and important properties of systems, such as ...

Software architectures for JPEG2000
2002 14th International Conference on Digital Signal Processing Proceedings. DSP 2002 (Cat. No.02TH8628), 2003This paper is concerned with software architectures for JPEG2000. The paper is informed by the author's own work on the JPEG2000 VM (Verification Model) and the Kakadu implementation of the standard. The paper describes non-obvious implementation strategies, state machines, predictive algorithms and internal representation techniques which are used to ...

Software architecture design is a matter of generate and test. That is, generate a candidate design (a hypothesis), test it to see whether it satisfies its requirements. If it does not, then generate a new hypothesis and repeat the process. Clearly, the hypothesis generation, whether for the initial hypothesis or the subsequent hypotheses is not random.
