Software Cost Estimation using Fuzzy Decision Trees

2008 23rd IEEE/ACM International Conference on Automated Software Engineering, 2008
This paper addresses the issue of software cost estimation through fuzzy decision trees, aiming at acquiring accurate and reliable effort estimates for project resource allocation and control. Two algorithms, namely CHAID and CART, are applied on empirical software cost data recorded in the ISBSG repository.

Software cost estimation models

Proceedings of the 5th Jerusalem Conference on Information Technology, 1990. 'Next Decade in Information Technology', 2002
The importance of accurate cost estimates is discussed, and an overview of the existing methods for cost estimation is given. One class of models, namely, the parametric models, is then considered. The principles of parametric cost estimation models are examined, and an overview of such model is given.

Software Cost Estimation Meets Software Diversity

2017 IEEE/ACM 39th International Conference on Software Engineering Companion (ICSE-C), 2017
The previous goal of having a one-size-fits-all software cost (and schedule) estimation model is no longer achievable. Sources of wide variation in the nature of software development and evolution processes, products, properties, and personnel (PPPPs) require a variety of estimation models and methods best fitting their situations.

Software cost estimation through conceptual requirement

Third International Conference on Quality Software, 2003. Proceedings., 2003
Software cost estimation is vital for the effective control and management of the whole software development process. Currently, the constructive cost model (COCOMO II) is the most popular tool for estimating software cost. It uses lines of code and function points to assess software size.

Communication of software cost estimates

Proceedings of the 18th International Conference on Evaluation and Assessment in Software Engineering, 2014
The meaning of an effort or cost estimate should be understood and communicated consistently and clearly to avoid planning and budgeting mistakes. Results from two studies, one of 42 software companies and one of 423 individual software developers, suggest that this is far from being the case.

An approach for software cost estimation

Proceedings of the 11th International Conference on Computer Systems and Technologies and Workshop for PhD Students in Computing on International Conference on Computer Systems and Technologies, 2010
Considerable studies are now directed at developing and using software cost estimation methods and tools. This paper underlines the specificity of the software estimation process and the fact that no one method is the best for all type projects. The paper claims that objective cost estimation is needed to ensure that the cost estimation is reliable and

Software Maintenance Cost Estimation

2003
This chapter deals with the subject of estimating the costs of software maintenance. It reviews the existing literature on the subject and summarises the various approaches taken to estimate maintenance costs starting with the original COCOMO approach in 1981.

Computational intelligence in software cost estimation

ACM SIGSOFT Software Engineering Notes, 2012
One of the key features for the failure of project estimation techniques is the selection of inappropriate estimation models. Further, noisy data poses a challenge to build accurate estimation models. Therefore, the software cost estimation (SCE) is a challenging problem that has attracted many researchers over the past few decades. In the recent times,
