An often-cited problem in software engineering education is that many of the relevant topics are difficult to address in a university setting. Though project work is a useful supplement to the lectures, it is very difficult to make the project truly realistic. In our environment therefore, we decided not to try to mimic all aspects of reality.

Incremental maintenance of software artifacts
21st IEEE International Conference on Software Maintenance (ICSM'05), 2005We have built a software development tool, CLIME, that uses constraints implemented as database queries to ensure the consistency of the different artifacts of software development. This approach makes the environment responsible for detecting inconsistencies between software design, specifications, documentation, source code, and test cases without ...

A process model for software maintenance
Journal of Information Technology, 1990This paper draws on work undertaken for the Butler Cox Productivity Enhancement Programme (PEP) to describe a process model which will provide a basis for overcoming the problems of cost and complexity associated with software maintenance. PEP is a continuous program that is open to organizations wishing to measure and improve systems development and ...

Software systems now invade every area of daily living. Yet, we still struggle to build systems we can really rely on. If we want to work with software systems at any level, we need to get to grips with the way software evolves. This book should equip the reader with a sound understanding of maintenance and how it affects all levels of the software ...
