Ant colony optimization for software engineers [PDF]
Many software engineering tasks can be formulated as search problems. Building tests requires selecting among infinite test inputs to maximise code coverage. In systems with large test-suites and limited resources, developers choose test execution order among all possible test-case permutations to maximise fault detection.

Optimizing Software Quality Assurance
2010 IEEE 34th Annual Computer Software and Applications Conference Workshops, 2010A major concern for managers of software projects are the triple constraints of cost, schedule and quality due to the difficulties to quantify accurately the trade-offs between them. Project managers working for accredited companies with a high maturity will typically use software cost estimation models like COCOMO II and predict software quality by ...

Validating software pipelining optimizations
Proceedings of the international conference on Compilers, architecture, and synthesis for embedded systems - CASES '02, 2002The paper presents a method for translation validation of a specific optimization, software pipelining optimization, used to increase the instruction level parallelism in EPIC type of architectures. Using a methodology as in [15] to establish simulation relation between source and target based on computational induction, we describe an algorithm that ...

Optimization of software development
Proceedings of the 28th international conference on Software engineering, 2006For many companies, including leaders in software development, software is becoming an increasingly critical competitive factor. For example, at Siemens, sixty percent of our business is strongly influenced by software and approximately fifty percent of all Siemens patents are software related. With more than 30,000 software developers worldwide and an

How to test software for optimal software reliability assessment
Third International Conference on Quality Software, 2003. Proceedings., 2003The controlled Markov chains (CMC) approach to software testing models the software under test as a controlled Markov chain and treats it as a controlled object. It treats software testing strategy as the corresponding controller. Our previous work has shown that the CMC approach is applicable to dealing with the software testing problem for optimal ...

Optimization Metaheuristic for Software Testing
2013This paper presents an evolutionary method for testing web applications. Although state-based testing has been reported, few papers have addressed modern web applications. In our work, we model web applications by associating features or web pages with states; state transition diagrams are based on events representing state transitions.

An optimal software debugging model
Annals of Operations Research, 1991This paper deals with the question of optimal debugging times for large-scale computer programs, given certain assumptions concerning the distribution of error within the program, the cost that is incurred whenever a fault occurs, and the cost of debugging.

2014 IEEE Intl Conf on High Performance Computing and Communications, 2014 IEEE 6th Intl Symp on Cyberspace Safety and Security, 2014 IEEE 11th Intl Conf on Embedded Software and Syst (HPCC,CSS,ICESS), 2014With the turn to multicore in chip design and manufacturing, both consumer and high performance applications can benefit from ubiquitous hardware parallelism. However, the performance improvement to be achieved is not always in the orders of magnitude range.

Optimizing software development processes
Proceedings of the 4th International Workshop on Conducting Empirical Studies in Industry, 2016It would appear that developing software programs or services is one of the easiest things in the world to do. The theorist would have us believe that all practitioners need to do is to write the code in specific software language (e.g. functional language) and follow specific processes (e.g. agile) and ideally deploy as a continuously evolving service
