Software Rejuvenation in the Cloud
Proceedings of the Fifth International Conference on Simulation Tools and Techniques, 2012In this paper, we investigate how software rejuvenation can be used in a Cloud environment to increase the availability of a virtualized system composed of a single virtual machine monitor (VMM) on top of which a certain number of virtual machines (VMs) can be instantiated.

Software rejuvenation and runtime reliability monitoring
2022 IEEE International Symposium on Software Reliability Engineering Workshops (ISSREW), 2022The overall system reliability of complex Cyber Physical systems is contributed both by hardware reliability and software reliability. The former can be often increased through fault-tolerant mechanisms and architectures, while the latter can take advantage of a suitable rejuvenation policy. These characteristics call for flexible runtime safety checks ...

Software Rejuvenation and Replicated Rejuvenated Services
2007 5th IEEE International Conference on Industrial Informatics, 2007In this paper, the software rejuvenation model, designed for a continuously running non-replicated application, is extended for the case of distributed systems with rejuvenated replicated services. It identifies to which extent an increase in availability can be achieved and how the cost associated with downtime can be reduced using software ...

A framework of software rejuvenation for survivability
18th International Conference on Advanced Information Networking and Applications, 2004. AINA 2004., 2004We propose a novel approach of the security issue to survivability. The main objectives are to detect the attacks in real time, to characterize the attacks, and to survive in face of the attacks. To counteract the attacks' attempts, we perform the software rejuvenation methods (SWRMS) such as killing the intruders' processes in their tracks, halting ...

A Comprehensive Model for Software Rejuvenation
IEEE Transactions on Dependable and Secure Computing, 2005Recently, the phenomenon of software aging, one in which the state of the software system degrades with time, has been reported. This phenomenon, which may eventually lead to system performance degradation and/or crash/hang failure, is the result of exhaustion of operating system resources, data corruption, and numerical error accumulation.

Adaptive software rejuvenation: degradation model and rejuvenation scheme
2003 International Conference on Dependable Systems and Networks, 2003. Proceedings., 2004We present a framework of adaptive estimation and rejuvenation of software system performance in the presence of aging sources. The framework specifies that a degradation model not only describe an aging process but also enable the adaptation of model-based performance estimates to on-line measurements of data pertaining to the aging process.

Group Rejuvenation: A New Software Rejuvenation Framework
International Journal of Database Theory and Application, 2016With cloud computing continues to mature and widely used, the availability guarantee of cloud system becomes one of the key issues. In the cloud system based on virtualization, reliability of virtual machine is an important premise to guarantee the quality of service of cloud computing.

Software Rejuvenation Practice
2009 WRI World Congress on Software Engineering, 2009Software is playing a more and more important role in a system, and more and more studies show that system failures are more due to software faults than due to hardware faults. Therefore, software reliability has been one of the hottest research topics. Recently, a phenomenon, "software aging" is reported.

Proceedings of the 17th Conference on Pattern Languages of Programs, 2010
Software rejuvenation is a technique of proactive fault tolerance that designs the system for periodic reboots. This paper contains three patterns of which Software Rejuvenation is the first. The second, Count the Black Sheep, provides a solution to the problem of knowing precisely what fault has activated. This information is needed to recover quickly
