The purpose of this work is to compare the speed of isosurface rendering in software with that using dedicated hardware. Input data consist of 10 different objects from various parts of the body and various modalities (CT, MR, and MRA) with a variety of surface sizes (up to 1 million voxels/2 million triangles) and shapes.

A SIMD-accelerated software rendering pipeline for 3D graphics processing
2012 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems, 2012This paper presents a SIMD-accelerated software rendering pipeline for 3D graphics processing with multi-core architecture. The multi-core architecture is based on ARMv5 ISA which employs a SIMD unit developed by this work. We also propose a window search bounding box algorithm that can achieve zero failure in pixel tests so that speedup traversal ...

Modular composing high-performance real-time rendering software
1996Fast visualisation of a realistic 3D graphics environment is necessary for hypermedia and virtual reality systems. As a rule, powerful hardware is used for this purpose. This paper presents an approach to achieve a high graphics performance on a plain IBM PC; a performance which is comparable to that of powerful workstations for a wide class of ...

Massively parallel software rendering for visualizing large-scale data sets
IEEE Computer Graphics and Applications, 2001We describe two highly scalable, parallel software volume-rendering algorithms - one renders unstructured grid volume data and the other renders isosurfaces. We designed one algorithm for distributed-memory parallel architectures to render unstructured grid volume data.

A Software Architecture for Distributed Volume Rendering on HPC Systems
Parallel and Distributed Computing and Systems / 790: Software Engineering and Applications, 2012We present a scalable software architecture for distributed direct volume rendering on HPC systems. Our approach allows for generically replacing components along the distributed volume rendering pipeline. Renderer components range from highly specialized GPU renderers that implement state of the art features to more versatile remote renderers, that ...

Musical considerations in the design of 3-D-sound rendering software
The Journal of the Acoustical Society of America, 2001The rapid growth of 3-D-sound technology has created a need for 3-D audio tools which can be used by musicians and composers in much the same manner that visual artists use 3-D graphics tools. Experience with such audio tools reveals some issues of special concern for music.
