Massively parallel software rendering for visualizing large-scale data sets

open access: closedIEEE Computer Graphics and Applications, 2001
We describe two highly scalable, parallel software volume-rendering algorithms - one renders unstructured grid volume data and the other renders isosurfaces. We designed one algorithm for distributed-memory parallel architectures to render unstructured grid volume data.

Software rendering methods to display wafer scale integrated circuit dataset

2013 26th IEEE Canadian Conference on Electrical and Computer Engineering (CCECE), 2013
The display of a large load of vectorial data in "real time" has always been a challenge for software developers. As part of the development of CAD tools to manage a wafer-scale integrated circuit, the volume of data to handle is substantial. This article focuses on the development of a simple and effective display technique to manage software ...

A SIMD-accelerated software rendering pipeline for 3D graphics processing

2012 IEEE Asia Pacific Conference on Circuits and Systems, 2012
This paper presents a SIMD-accelerated software rendering pipeline for 3D graphics processing with multi-core architecture. The multi-core architecture is based on ARMv5 ISA which employs a SIMD unit developed by this work. We also propose a window search bounding box algorithm that can achieve zero failure in pixel tests so that speedup traversal ...

Clinical Application of an Open-Source 3D Volume Rendering Software to Neurosurgical Approaches

World Neurosurgery, 2018
Preoperative recognition of the anatomic individualities of each patient can help to achieve more precise and less invasive approaches. It also may help to anticipate potential complications and intraoperative difficulties. Here we describe the use, accuracy, and precision of a free tool for planning microsurgical approaches using 3-dimensional (3D ...

A New Software Architecture for Ultra-large-scale Rendering Cloud

2012 11th International Symposium on Distributed Computing and Applications to Business, Engineering & Science, 2012
A kind of new five-level software architecture is presented in this paper, which is designed elaborately for ultra-large-scale rendering cloud. This software architecture consists of five levels, infrastructure layer, rendering service layer, rendering application layer, service management and access interface.

Order-of-magnitude faster isosurface rendering in software on a PC than using dedicated general-purpose rendering hardware

open access: closedSPIE Proceedings, 1999
The purpose of this work is to compare the speed of isosurface rendering in software with that using dedicated hardware. Input data consist of 10 different objects from various parts of the body and various modalities (CT, MR, and MRA) with a variety of surface sizes (up to 1 million voxels/2 million triangles) and shapes.
