Photocatalytic Lignin Depolymerization and Cross‐Coupling With Alcohols to Produce Unsymmetric Aromatic Diols

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 138, Issue 32, 3 August 2026.
A photocatalytic approach for efficient one‐pot direct lignin depolymerization and subsequent cross‐coupling with alcohols for the production of unsymmetrical aromatic diols has been demonstrated. ABSTRACT Conversion of lignin into chemical products typically involves two separate steps, such as depolymerization and subsequent upgrading of monomers ...

The Unexpected Discovery of Paleocene? Coals in Outcrops Thought to Be Cambrian, Al Huqf, Oman

open access: yesJournal of Petroleum Geology, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Two brown organic deposits were encountered whilst investigating kaolinitic claystones thought to occur at the base of a Cambrian formation at outcrop. The age of these organic deposits is probably Paleocene from palynology. Organic petrography shows that they are subbituminous coals with some oil source potential.

Dual‐Functional Sulfonated Nanocellulose for Proton Exchange Membranes With High Proton Conductivity at Low Humidity

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, Volume 9, Issue 5, September 2026.
A scalable dual‐functional strategy yields simultaneously sulfonated and nanosized cellulose for proton exchange membranes with continuous hydrogen‐bond networks. These sustainable membranes exhibit low‐humidity proton conductivity twofold higher than Nafion 212, providing a robust solution for next‐generation fuel cells.

Effects of Morphological Age and Indole-3-Butyric Acid Concentration on Rooting of Selected Robusta Coffee Varieties

open access: yesCoffee and Cocoa Research Journal
In response to the outbreak of Coffee Wilt Disease (CWD) which wiped out almost 50% of Robusta coffee in Uganda, the National Coffee Research Institute (NaCORI) released 10 varieties (KR1-10) which are resistant to the disease. These varieties are being

Key Drivers of Soil CO2, CH4, and N2O Fluxes in Conifer and Broadleaf Afforestation Systems in the Southeastern U.S.: A Machine Learning Analysis

open access: yesGlobal Change Biology Communications, Volume 1, Issue 3, September 2026.
Soil CO2 and CH4 emissions were higher in broadleaf than conifer afforestation systems in the southeastern U.S., particularly during the growing season. Machine learning analyses identified soil temperature, moisture, and atmospheric conditions as key drivers, emphasizing that soil greenhouse gas responses critically influence the climate mitigation ...

Orthogonal cutting forces in juvenile and mature Pinus taeda wood Forças de corte ortogonal na madeira juvenil e adulta de Pinus taeda

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 2005
The distinct characteristics of juvenile and mature woods, which are observed particularly in softwoods, have an influence on processing due to their different mechanical resistance properties in relation to cutting operations.
