Nonlinear Interaction of Soil–Pile in Horizontal Vibration

Journal of Engineering Mechanics - ASCE, 2005
This paper presents a new model for analyzing a nonlinear soil–pile interaction subject to horizontal shaking of a vertical circular pile embedded in a soil layer of finite thickness. The pile rests on bedrock with either a pinned or a clamped support. The soil mass is assumed composing of a “semi-nonlinear” inner soil zone around the pile and a linear

Modeling Lateral Soil-Pile Response Based on Soil-Pile Interaction

Journal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 2000
Although most designers prefer the p-y curve method as compared to elastic continuum or finite-element analysis of laterally loaded pile behavior, the profession has reached a state where it is tim...

Elastoplastic analysis of soil-pile interaction

Computers and Geotechnics, 1991
Abstract A finite element analysis of soil-pile interaction is presented in this paper. Goodman's interface elements and four elastic and elastoplastic constitutive models of soil are used. The calculated results are compared with field measurements. The necessity for considering the elastoplastic behaviour of soil coupled with interface elements and

Soil-Pile Interaction in Horizontal Plane

Seismic Performance and Simulation of Pile Foundations in Liquefied and Laterally Spreading Ground, 2005
Two dimensional model tests are performed on a horizontal cross section of a soil-pile system in a pile foundation. The objective of the model tests is to evaluate local soil displacement field in the vicinity of the piles associated with a global displacement of soil around the pile foundation.

Soil‐pile interaction in vertical vibration

Earthquake Engineering & Structural Dynamics, 1976
AbstractThe interaction between a soil layer and an end bearing pile is theoretically investigated. The pile is assumed to be vertical and elastic, the soil is considered as a linear visco‐elastic layer with hysteretic type damping. The layer alone is solved first and the wave modes of the layer are used in the analysis of the pile response.
