3D non-linear time domain FEM-BEM approach to soil-structure interaction problems [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Dynamic soil-structure interaction is concerned with the study of structures supported on flexible soils and subjected to dynamic actions. Methods combining the finite element method (FEM) and the boundary element method (BEM) are well suited to address ...

Clean‐Limit 2D Superconductivity in a Thick Exfoliated Kagome Film

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study reports clean‐limit 2D superconductivity in a thick kagome system, analogous to the 3D case. It observes a drop in superfluid stiffness near the superconducting transition and a cusp‐like feature in the angular dependence of the upper critical field.

Study on mechanical properties and modification mechanisms of construction waste soil modified by activated clay-calcium carbide slag

open access: yesMaterials Research Express
The disposal of construction waste soil has become a major challenge for sustainable infrastructure development. Currently, conventional binders such as cement and lime are widely employed for the stabilization of construction waste soil.

A Simplified Computation of the Interactive Behavior between Soils and Framed Structures

open access: yesJournal of King Saud University: Engineering Sciences, 2003
In common structural design practice, the foundation loads from structure analysis are obtained without allowance for soil settlements, and the foundation settlements are estimated under the assumption of a perfectly flexible structure.

The effects of foundation size on the seismic performance of buildings considering the soil-foundation-structure interaction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Copyright © 2016 Techno-Press, Ltd. Shallow footings are one of the most common types of foundations used to support mid-rise buildings in high risk seismic zones.

Tailoring the Properties of Functional Materials With N‐Oxides

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
The properties of materials bearing N‐oxide groups are often dominated by the polar N+─O− bond. It provides hydrophilicity, selective ion‐binding, electric conductivity, or antifouling properties. Many of the underlying mechanisms have only recently been discovered, and the interest in N‐oxide materials is rapidly growing.

Numerical Investigations on Seismic Response of Structures under the Effect of Infinite Boundary of Soil-Structure Interaction [PDF]

open access: yesEngineering and Technology Journal, 2019
The damage caused by large earthquakes is not only due to structures but also due to the soil failure, where the dynamic response varies considerably from the fixed base state because of the interaction between the ground and the structure.

A Termite‐Inspired Alternative to Cement

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A termite‐inspired composite of clay, cellulose, and lignin forms a dense fibrous network with concrete‐like strength (32 MPa) and superior elasticity, processed at ambient temperature. Abstract Clay combined with organic materials is used by termites as a strong and durable construction material for their mounds with minimal environmental impact. Here,

Investigating seismic behavior in adjacent structures: A study on the impact of structures embedment level and existence of dead loads considering soil-structure interaction

open access: yesResults in Engineering
The aim of this paper is to give a comprehensive awareness of some substantial factors including the influences of the embedment level of a building and the presence of dead loading which affect the structure-soil-structure interaction (SSSI) of nearby ...
