Probabilistic analysis of soil-water characteristic curve using limited data

Applied Mathematical Modelling, 2021
Soil-water characteristic curve is an essential constitutive relationship required for modelling unsaturated soil behaviour. Earlier supposed to be characteristic or unique for a particular soil, it is now well established that there are various sources ...

Equations for the soil-water characteristic curve

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 1994
The soil-water characteristic curve can be used to estimate various parameters used to describe unsaturated soil behaviour. A general equation for the soil-water characteristic curve is proposed. A nonlinear, least-squares computer program is used to determine the best-fit parameters for experimental data presented in the literature.

Review of Soil-Water Characteristic Curve Equations

open access: yesJournal of Geotechnical and Geoenvironmental Engineering, 1997
Practical applications of unsaturated soil mechanics still lag behind the state-of-the-art knowledge. The main stumbling block is the time-consuming processes involved in the measurement of the unsaturated soil parameters required for the constitutive models.

Soil–water characteristic curves of Singapore residual soils

open access: yesGeotechnical & Geological Engineering, 2001
Soil—water characteristic curves were obtained for a number of Singapore residual soil samples. Soil samples were obtained from the two main residual soil formations, the Jurong sedimentary formation and the Bukit Timah granitic formation, at various depths. The effect of weathering on the shape of the soil—water characteristic curve is examined.

Probabilistic Analysis of Soil-Water Characteristic Curve of Bentonite: Multivariate Copula Approach

International Journal of Geomechanics, 2020
Measurement of the soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC) is time-consuming for soils such as bentonites.

Uncertainty in the estimation of hysteresis of soil–water characteristic curve

Environmental Geotechnics, 2019
The soil–water characteristic curve (SWCC) contains key information on unsaturated soil properties and is reported to be hysteretic (i.e. the amount of water at a given suction during the wetting process is less than that during the drying process).

Investigating the source of hysteresis in the soil–water characteristic curve using the multiphase lattice Boltzmann method

Acta Geotechnica, 2022
The soil–water characteristic curve (SWCC) is the most fundamental relationship in unsaturated soil mechanics, relating the amount of water in the soil to the corresponding matric suction.

Bayesian estimation of soil-water characteristic curves

Canadian Geotechnical Journal, 2022
The soil-water characteristic curve (SWCC) is a significant prerequisite for studying the mechanical properties of unsaturated soil. As experimental measurement of the SWCC is time-consuming, empirical methods have been suggested to estimate the SWCC. However, the uncertainty associated with SWCC can be substantial.
