Algorithm for model the soil arching effect on discontinuous soil retaining walls

2017 12th Iberian Conference on Information Systems and Technologies (CISTI), 2017
Soil arching effect is a physical phenomenon that allows self-retain to the soil by mean of discontinuous earth retaining structures used to the construction of foundation piles for high-rise buildings. To analyze this phenomenon, a two-dimensional (2D) simplified analysis is currently used, although it offers a mathematical approximation to the ...

Experimental study of soil arching effect under seepage condition

Acta Geotechnica, 2019
Soil arching effect, which relates to the load transfer and stress redistribution in a soil mass, exists commonly in various geotechnical situations. Many researchers have conducted trapdoor tests and theoretical analyses to study the soil arching and its development in recent years.

Model Test on the Soil Arching Effect of Pile-Supported Embankments Using Transparent Soil

Geotechnical Testing Journal, 2020
Abstract Pile-supported embankments have been widely used in subgrade engineering for highways and high-speed railways. Soil arching has an important effect on the deformation characteristics of pile-supported embankments. In this study, a new model testing apparatus and its test method for the soil arching effect were developed based on

Arching Effect of Anti-Slide Piles in Non-Cohesion Soil

Applied Mechanics and Materials, 2012
In recent years, Anti-slide pile has been widely used in soil reinforcement works, but the pile soil interaction is not very clear. Numerical simulation was used in this article to analyze the soil arcing effect between anti-slide piles in non-cohesive soil and the main influencing factors, such as soil horizontal pressure, pile spacing and so on were ...

Numerical analysis of soil-arch effect of anti-slide piles

2008
This chapter aims at solving the problems in the calculation and design of anti-slide piles presently. The basic principle of soil arching is expatiated, FLAC3D is applied to build the 3D model of anti-slide piles, gliding masses and anchorage zone, and the numerical simulation is carried out.

Effect of particle shape on the development of 2D soil arching

Computers and Geotechnics, 2020
Abstract This study presents the effects of the particle shape on soil arching by simulating the trapdoor problem using the discrete element method (DEM). A new method for preparing the samples with irregular particle in the DEM is proposed to obtain a similar and reasonable initial stress state. Simple monitoring of the strain field is demonstrated.

Effect of oversize grain on soil arching of anti-slide piles

2011 International Conference on Electric Technology and Civil Engineering (ICETCE), 2011
Colluvial landslide materials are mainly loose deposits which content of gravelly soils, which are difficult to get mechanics parameters by soil test. Colluvial landslides are distributed in the wold widely, especially in China. In order to make the slopes stable, many treatment projects have put into practice.

Soil Arching Effect in Sand Reinforced with Micropiles Under Lateral Load

Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, 2016
The mechanics of the mobilization of resistance from passive pile groups subjected to lateral soil movement is discussed from the standpoint of the arching effect. An innovative approach has been attempted to study the effect of introducing multiple rows arrangement of micropiles in sand at varying ground densities (30% and 80%).

Effect of Seismic Shaking on Soil Arching Effect at Different Initial States

International Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics
ABSTRACT The impact of seismic shaking on the soil arching effect at different initial states is not clear. This study presents a comprehensive comparison of the soil arching effect under five initial states and three burial depths subjected to seismic shaking, utilizing numerical trapdoor tests performed with the discrete element ...
