Are the soil microbial biomass and basal respiration governed by the climatic regime?
Soil Biology and Biochemistry, 1990Abstract Soils in C equilibrium from various climatic regions were sampled to assess the influence of macroclimate on soil microbial biomass (C mic ) and basal respiration (CO 2 -evolution). C mic was measured using the substrate-induced respiration technique.

Evolution of microbial activity in semiarid agricultural soils was studied measuring the basal (CO2 evolved) and specific microbial respiration (qCO2). The effects of straw residue management (buried or removed), irrigation (dry or irrigation farming), and chemical composition of the soils (calcareous, gypsiferous, or saline) were analyzed.

Basal respiration is one of the key indicators of soil C mineralization. Temperature sensitivity (Q10) of basal respiration is important for predicting changes in C mineralization due to warming. A modified methodology of Q10 determination is proposed. Soil samples were incubated at 25°C with periodic short-term (2 h) decline of temperature to 15°C and

This study investigates the effects of Pb during time on the bacterial communities of forest soils using water-extractable Pb concentrations in the soil solution as predictors of Pb bioavailability. In a microcosm experiment we applied increasing concentrations of Pb(NO(3))(2) solutions (0.5, 2, 8, 32 mM) to 5 forest soils of pH6.5.

Vegetation coverage is an important parameter in terrestrial ecological process, meteorological, and climatic models. By eliminating the errors from the precision of image classification and the noises of remote sensing images, and by using the actual data from fieldwork, this paper determined the maximum and minimum values of normalized difference ...

Abstract Land‐use change directly impacts soil basal respiration (Br), soil microbial attributes, and soil organic matter (SOM) composition. However, the role of soil microbial attributes and SOM composition in influencing soil Br under land‐use changes remains largely undetermined.
