Microbial communities in local and transplanted soils along a latitudinal gradient [PDF]
Factors shaping community structure of soil microbiota have been intensively studied; however, the pattern in community composition and structure of soil microbiota at large geographical scales and factors regulating its metabolic activity remains poorly

Photocatalytic Water Splitting on the Lunar Surface: Prospects for In Situ Resource Utilization
Water has been found in craters on the moon nearby locations which are illuminated >80% of the time. Photocatalysis uses energy from sunlight to drive chemical reactions such as water splitting to produce oxygen and hydrogen. It is a scalable technology that requires lighter equipment and utilizes resources available on the moon. ABSTRACT The discovery

Soil respiration in a northeastern US temperate forest: a 22‐year synthesis [PDF]
To better understand how forest management, phenology, vegetation type, and actual and simulated climatic change affect seasonal and inter‐annual variations in soil respiration (Rs), we analyzed more than 100,000 individual measurements of soil ...

Ecotoxicological characterization of biochars : role of feedstock and pyrolysis temperature [PDF]
Seven contrasting feedstocks were subjected to slow pyrolysis at low (300 or 350 °C) and high temperature (550 or 600 °C), and both biochars and the corresponding feedstocks tested for short-term ecotoxicity using basal soil respiration and collembolan ...

Long‐Term Elevated CO2 Improves Soil Health and Rice Yields in Paddy Fields
Combining the two longest‐running rice free‐air CO2 enrichment experiments with a global data synthesis, this study demonstrates that long‐term elevated CO2 consistently enhances soil health. In rice paddies, this improvement sustains the CO2 fertilization effect over decades.

Activitatea respiraţiei din comunităţile microbiene ale cernoziomului arat din Republica Moldova
The respiration activity of the microbial communities in the plowed chernozem was evaluated in fractions of the values of basal respiration (BR), substrate-induced respiration (SIR), as well as of specific respiration (qCO2), in relation to the soil of ...

Effects of Ponderosa Pine Ecological Restoration on Forest Soils and Understory Vegetation in Northern Arizona [PDF]
The human exclusion of wildfire and overgrazing by livestock since settlement have caused dramatic changes in ponderosa pine (Pinus ponderosa Dougl ex Laws) forest ecosystems.
