Fusion of multi soil data for the delineation of management zones for variable rate irrigation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Up until now, there have been no multi-sensor approaches used to estimate available water content (AWC) in order to determine variable rate irrigation. This has been a major problem for growers adopting precision farming technologies.

3D Printed Omniphobic Slippery Liquid Infused Porous Surfaces for Low Surface Tension Repellency

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
A 3D printing strategy fabricates omniphobic slippery liquid‐infused porous structures with lubricant reservoirs and interconnected microchannels. A post‐printing surface treatment modifies the porous surface to ensure compatibility with the infused fluorinated lubricant.

Optimizing pedotransfer functions for estimating soil bulk density using boosted regression trees

open access: yes, 2009
Pedotransfer functions (PTFs) are used to estimate certain soil properties that are difficult and costly to measure from others more easily available. Bulk density is one important soil property.

Agar‐Based Optical Sensing System With a Phosphorescent Grid Pattern for Measuring Stress Distributions of Root Growth Using the Sampling Moiré Method

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
This paper presents an agar medium with a phosphorescent grid pattern that measures the stress distribution generated by growing plant roots. Using phosphorescence, the system optically separates the grid pattern from the root and extracts the grid deformation.

Changes of soil structure under different tillage management assessed by bulk density, penetrometer resistance, water retention curve, least limiting water range and X-ray computed tomography

open access: yes, 2022
Soil structure influences the soil hydraulic properties, aeration and resistance to root penetration. Many indicators can be used to investigate the changes of soil structure, but using a single indicator or method has limitations.
