Integrated biorefinery for cellulosic ethanol and spherical nanolignin production from coconut waste

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Green coconut waste was subjected to different fractionation methods to obtain integrated lignin nanoparticles and cellulosic ethanol. Pretreatment with gradual addition of dilute sulfuric acid provided a higher structural hemicellulose precursor yield (68.2%).

Acidogenic fermentation of pretreated food waste under psychrophilic conditions for volatile fatty acids production

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract Mixed‐culture fermentation generally produces volatile fatty acids (VFAs) as a mixture of C2–C6 acids. Among operational parameters, temperature has a distinct effect on the microorganisms' metabolic activity, which can shift the composition of the metabolites.

Biogas production from Opuntia stricta Haw.: microbial diversity and solid load influence on sludge recycle systems

open access: yesBiofuels, Bioproducts and Biorefining, EarlyView.
Abstract The search for alternative and sustainable energy sources becomes urgent as energy demand increases and fossil fuels become less available, especially in water‐scarce regions such as the Brazilian semi‐arid region, where current projections of global warming and the expansion of arid and semi‐arid zones point to a future of desertification ...

Mechanisms of Soil Organic Carbon Stabilization in Floodplain Soils

open access: yes
Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stabilization is vital for soil health, fertility, and ecosystem function, especially in floodplain soils, where hydrological processes and sediment deposition constantly influence carbon dynamics. Stabilized SOC supports shoreline stability, plant productivity, and long-term nutrient cycling.

Functional Diversity and Oleaginous Potential of Fungal Strains From Hawaiian Soil Ecosystems

open access: yesBiotechnology and Bioengineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Fungi represent an important but underexplored resource for microbial lipid production, including nutritionally valuable polyunsaturated fatty acids. Hawaiian soils, shaped by volcanic parent materials and strong environmental gradients, provide a unique setting for discovering functionally diverse fungal strains with distinct metabolic traits.

Evaluation of the soil organic carbon stock and stability in the urban soils

open access: yes, 2018
Les sols constituent le premier réservoirterrestre de carbone organique et jouent ainsi un rôleclé pour limiter le réchauffement climatique. Les solsurbains représentent 3% du territoire mondial etl’urbanisation est la première cause de changementd’affectation des sols.

From apex to base: Uncovering spatial metabolic adaptation in Antarctic mosses

open access: yesBulletin of the Korean Chemical Society, EarlyView.
Antarctic mosses survive extreme cold, desiccation, UV exposure, and oxidative stress. We analyzed three species by separating apical, middle, and basal zones. Each zone showed distinct metabolite patterns and biological roles, revealing spatial metabolic specialization. The results suggest that whole‐plant survival depends on coordinated contributions
