Finite deformation of an elasto‐plastic soil
International Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, 1977AbstractPresented in this paper is a formulation and a numerical solution method for problems which involve finite deformations of an elasto‐plastic material. The governing equations are cast in rate form and the constitutive laws are formulated in a frame indifferent manner. Particular reference is made to the finite deformation of soil.

Microanalysis of Deformation of Soil
1993Abstract : Prediction of the behavior of soil Subject to a wide range of stresses is of interest in the design of Air Force strategic and tactical facilities and requires accurate determination of the soil properties for the environmental conditions under consideration. This study helps to link behavior and environment through the microstructure.

Soil Deformation Under Compressive Forces
1989Recent developments are presented with respect to: seasonal fluctuation of soil physical condition, equivalent precompaction stresses, estimation of stresses and strains, central-tire-inflation-system, capillary crumbling model, physical-chemical considerations, unstable and stable behavior, inter- vs intra-aggregate strength, flow, wet compaction ...

Deformation properties of frozen soils
Engineering Geology, 1981Abstract This paper gives a brief account of the results of a series of oedometer tests and triaxial creep tests on frozen soils. The oedometer tests are performed on artificially frozen sand, silt and clay. The tests also include ice as a reference material. The results are given by parameters describing the tangent deformation modulus and the time

Aftereffect of Dynamic Deformation of Soils
Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, 2000It is demonstrated experimentally that the aftereffect phenomenon associated with dynamic deformation is inherent to all types of soils - from sands to heavy plastic clays. Its duration may attain 50-60% of the total time required for development of the deformation process, while the aftereffect deformation may amount to as much as 28% of maximum soil ...

Permanent Deformation of Subgrade Soils
Analysis of Asphalt Pavement Materials and Systems, 2007Few research projects have been conducted on the permanent deformation of subgrade soils in China. Based on a comprehensive literature review, a testing procedure to evaluate permanent deformation in subgrade soils is developed and presented in this paper.

On the volumetric deformation of reconstituted soils
International Journal for Numerical and Analytical Methods in Geomechanics, 2000The authors present three models to describe the volumetric hardening behaviour of reconstituted soils. These are an elastic ``virgin-yielding'' material, a ``sub-yielding'' ``virging-yielding'' material, and a material with mixed elastic ``sub-yielding'' and ``virgin-yielding'' behaviour.

Retention Curves in Deforming Soils
2022During the determination of the main drying curve, the soil is subjected to high suctions, which induce important volumetric deformations. These volumetric deformations modify the pore size distribution of the sample affecting both the drying and the wetting branch of the retention curves.

Deformations of buildings on loess soils
Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering, 1992The writer describes the deformations of a building in connection with its upward (convex) bend and determines their causes. From data from observations on opening of cracks, the process of occurrence of settlement of the base with time is reproduced, and its attenuation is established.
