A Soil Probe System to Evaluate Weed Seed Survival in Soil Disinfestation Trials

open access: yes, 2017
Weed seed viability is an important parameter to assess the efficacy of soil disinfestation methods like fumigation and steam. In field experiments, seed samples are commonly placed in permeable bags and buried at several depths in soil before the ...

Host plant‐specific volatiles of Beauveria bassiana‐colonized plants initiate trophic plant–aphid–predator cascades

open access: yesPest Management Science, Volume 82, Issue 10, Page 9538-9552, October 2026.
Endophytic colonization of melon plants by B. bassiana modifies the crop volatile profiles in a genotype‐dependent manner. A predator choice is biased toward endophytically colonized plants infested with aphids revealing a guardian within effect of the fungus of great potential in integrated pest management.

A solar collector for soil disinfestation. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
A solar collector to be used for disinfestation of substrates for plant propagation is described. At a high solar radiation intensity, one day of treatment was sufficient for disinfestation of soil infested with Sclerotium rolfsii, Sclerotiorum, Fusarium

Chemical Control of Phytophthora sojae: Sensitivity of Isolates and Effects on Soybean Seed Germination and Seed Rot

open access: yesJournal of Phytopathology, Volume 174, Issue 5, September/October 2026.
ABSTRACT Phytophthora sojae is an oomycete responsible for causing seedling damping‐off and root and stem rot in soybean. Seed treatment with chemical products is one of the management strategies that can be used to control the disease. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the in vitro sensitivity of P.

Effect of Anaerobic Soil Disinfestation on Tuber Vitality of Yellow Nutsedge (Cyperus esculentus)

open access: yesAgriculture, 2023
Cyperus esculentus is considered the sixteenth worst weed in the world. The weed causes huge losses in arable crops. Current control strategies are based on combinations of chemical and mechanical methods, repeated over years, and aim to deplete the ...

Two Decades of the Immersiporthe knoxdaviesiana (Cryphonectriaceae) Canker Outbreak Driven by Clonal Pathogen Lineages

open access: yesPlant Pathology, Volume 75, Issue 5, September‐October 2026.
A single clonal lineage has driven Cape beech canker for nearly two decades. However, the fungus was also found in healthy trees, suggesting that this emerging disease may have a more complex origin than a simple pathogen introduction. ABSTRACT Immersiporthe knoxdaviesiana (Cryphonectriaceae) causes an aggressive canker disease on native Myrsine ...
