Gut Microbiota Regulates Systemic Inflammatory Response and Compensatory Anti‐Inflammatory Response Syndromes by Targeting PF4+ Macrophages in Acute Pancreatitis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Acute pancreatitis (AP) begins with pancreatic local inflammation, leading to the onset of systemic inflammatory response syndrome (SIRS), followed by compensatory anti‐inflammatory response syndrome (CARS), which causes immune paralysis and higher mortality rate.

Topographic controls on soil organic carbon partitioning and enzyme dynamics in nutrient-poor soils

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology
IntroductionUnderstanding the dynamics of soil organic carbon (SOC) in sloping farmlands is critical, as they play a vital role in the global carbon cycle and soil health.

Linking Soil Microbial Properties with Plant Performance in Acidic Tropical Soil Amended with Biochar

open access: yesAgronomy, 2018
Soil microbial properties are frequently used as indicators of soil fertility. However, the linkage of these properties with crop biomass is poorly documented especially in biochar amended soil with high carbon:nitrogen (C:N).

Canagliflozin Alleviates Diabetic Glomerular Endothelial Injury via Melibiose in a Microbiota‐Dependent Manner

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Canagliflozin treatment reshapes the gut microbiota in DKD and elevates levels of melibiose, a metabolite derived from Roseburia intestinalis. Melibiose directly binds to and enhances the enzymatic activity of glyoxalase 1, leading to decreased methylglyoxal accumulation.

Synergistic co-metabolism enhancing the crude oil degradation by Acinetobacter oleivorans DR1 and its metabolic potential

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum
Bacterial degradation of hydrocarbons during co-metabolism with glucose often resulted in variable degradation efficiency. This study explored the mechanistic understanding of the metabolic response during co-metabolism in Acinetobacter oleivorans DR1 ...

Cross Kingdom Metabolic Engineering Paradigm Elevating Sustainable Protein Production

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Confronting the dual crisis of escalating global protein demand and unsustainable agriculture necessitates transformative solutions. Here, we pioneer evolutionary insights from maize nitrogen optimization via asparagine synthetase (ASNS) to rewire metabolism in Pichia pastoris.

Nanocellulose Alleviates Intrahepatic Cholestasis of Pregnancy via Gut Microbiota‐Mediated Bile Acid Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanocellulose, derived from microcrystalline cellulose (MCC) through sulfuric acid hydrolysis or mechanical grinding to produce CNC or CNF, was tested in a rat ICP model. Particularly, CNF improved gut microbiota composition, reduced secondary bile acid metabolism, and restored bile acid homeostasis through modulation of the gut–liver axis.

Moderate P Fertilizer Promotes Cucumber Yields and Modulates Bacterial Community in the Wheat Cover Crop System

open access: yesAgronomy
The over-reliance on phosphorus (P) fertilizers in intensive agriculture has led to the depletion of phosphate resources and soil health deterioration, with continuous cropping systems further exacerbating these issues.
