ABSTRACT Portable X‐ray computed tomography (portable CT) has become an important tool for the non‐destructive investigation of cultural heritage objects, particularly when in situ analysis is required. This work presents the experimental characterization and application of a transportable cone‐beam CT system designed for the inspection of large and ...

A Low‐Power Radioisotope XRF Spectrometer for Detection of Light Elements on Planetary Missions
ABSTRACT Current X‐ray spectrometers for in situ geochemical analysis on planetary missions typically rely either on X‐ray tubes, which demand electrical power and add mass and thermal complexity, or on alpha particle X‐ray spectrometers (APXS) that use rare 244Cm$$ {}^{244}\mathrm{Cm} $$ sources, and come with severe concerns on radiation safety and ...

Alteration of X‐Ray Emission Band Spectrum Under Bragg Diffraction
ABSTRACT We use a Zr/Si multilayer presenting a gradient of period to probe the shape of the Si L2,3 emission band (maximum around 92 eV) in and out of Bragg conditions. The sample was prepared by magnetron sputtering and its reflectance measured in the photon energy range of interest with synchrotron radiation.

Subtracting Interferences in X‐Ray Spectra Obtained With Grating Spectrometers
ABSTRACT Higher order diffraction from surface contamination poses a major challenge for soft x‐ray spectral analysis using reflection zone plate spectrometers in electron probe microanalysis. We developed two correction methods applied to the Al L2,3 and Zn M2,3 emissions in AlZn60 alloy spectra: sequential overlay and subtraction of C Kα and O Kα ...
