Effects of Cu and Zn contamination on soil biological indicators of environmental quality

open access: yes浙江大学学报. 农业与生命科学版, 2002
Some important biological parameters, namely, microbial biomass carbon, microbial biomass nitrogen, microbial quotient, metabolic quotient and soil enzyme activity in a heavy metal contaminated soil around a Copper (Cu)-Zinc (Zn) smelter in Fuyang city ...

A meta-analysis of soil microbial biomass responses to forest disturbances

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2013
Climate warming is likely to increase the frequency and severity of forest disturbances, with uncertain consequences for soil microbial communities and their contribution to ecosystem C dynamics.

Warming but Not Nitrogen Addition Alters the Linear Relationship Between Microbial Respiration and Biomass

open access: yesFrontiers in Microbiology, 2019
Soil contains a large amount of organic matter, which constitutes the largest terrestrial carbon pool. Heterotrophic or microbial respiration (Rh) that results from microbial decomposition of soil organic carbon (SOC) constitutes a substantial proportion

Soil quality, leaf litter quality, and microbial biomass interactively drive soil respiration in a microcosm experiment

open access: yesSoil Organisms, 2021
Soil respiration plays a central role in global carbon dynamics, and small changes in the magnitude of soil respiration could have large impacts on atmospheric CO2 concentrations.

Phosphorus in the soil microbial biomass

open access: yesSoil Biology and Biochemistry, 1984
Phosphorus in the soil microbial biomass (biomass P) and soil biomass carbon (biomass C) were linearly related in 15 soils (8 grassland, 6 arable, 1 deciduous woodland), with a mean P concentration of 3.3% in the soil biomass. The regression accounted for 82% of the variance in the data.

Representation of Dormant and Active Microbial Dynamics for Ecosystem Modeling [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Dormancy is an essential strategy for microorganisms to cope with environmental stress. However, global ecosystem models typically ignore microbial dormancy, resulting in major model uncertainties.

Soil Microbial Community Changes in a Field Treatment with Chlorotoluron, Flufenacet and Diflufenican and Two Organic Amendments

open access: yesAgronomy, 2020
The soil microbial activity, biomass and structure were evaluated in an unamended (S) and organically amended soil treated with two commercial formulations of the herbicides chlorotoluron (Erturon®) and flufenacet plus diflufenican (Herold®) under field ...

Soil microbial biomass and function are altered by 12 years of crop rotation [PDF]

open access: yesSOIL, 2016
Declines in plant diversity will likely reduce soil microbial biomass, alter microbial functions, and threaten the provisioning of soil ecosystem services.

Effects of tea planting age on soil microbial biomass C:N:P stoichiometry and microbial quotient

open access: yesPlant, Soil and Environment, 2023
This study aimed to determine the effect of tea planting age on stoichiometric ratios of microbial biomass carbon (MBC), nitrogen (MBN), and phosphorus (MBP) and soil microbial quotient (SMQ, expressed as qMBC, qMBN, and qMBP, respectively).
