Soil Mineralogy and Elemental Composition

2011
Mineralogical analysis tells us what the soil is made of and charts the course of soil evolution through the processes of clay formation, accumulation, translocation and the destruction of minerals by weathering. We may consider the evolution of the varieties of chernozem, from the Calcareous to the Podzolized, as a sequence of weathering and leaching –

Lunar Soil: Size Distribution and Mineralogical Constituents

Science, 1970
The lunar soil collected by Apollo 11 consists primarily of submillimeter material and is finer in grain size than soil previously recorded photographically by Surveyor experiments. The main constituents are fine-grained to glassy rocks of basaltic affinity and coherent breccia of undetermined origin. Dark glass, containing abundant nickel-iron spheres,

The mineralogical composition of some Scottish soils

The Journal of Agricultural Science, 1925
1. Previous investigations showed that certain Scottish soils were of glacial drift origin, that they were comparatively rich in unweathered silicates and therefore in reserves of plant-food, that they showed considerable variation in such silicates and were capable of classification accordingly.

Clay Mineralogy and Soil Stabilization

1951
This paper attempts to resolve a general concept of soil rheology from the standpoint of clay mineralogy, ion-exchange, properties of clay-water systems, and volume relationships existing between clay-water systems and granular structures. Both theory and experimental data are presented.

Sand Mineralogy of Some TamilNadu Soils

MADRAS AGRICULTURAL JOURNAL, 1975
A study of the sand mineralogy of some typical soils representing black.red alluvial and laterite series of TamilNadu has been takenup to understand the nature of parent material.degree of weathering and also the fertility status. The minerals wer identified and ounted using standard properties .The mineralogical make up of the soil samples studied ...

Clay Mineralogy and Soil Structure

2015
Most civil engineering projects are built on soil or rock and are constructed solely or partly of these materials. This chapter provides engineers with a good knowledge of the type and characteristics of the terrain on which such projects are to be constructed in order to achieve optimum safety and economic performance.

Mineralogical Variability within Clayey Soil Control Sections and Family Mineralogy Placement

Soil Science Society of America Journal, 1985
Abstract Mineralogical characterizations of 27 Alfisols and Ultisols indicated considerable variability among horizons comprising the control section. Coefficients of variation (CV) for dominant soil minerals critical for family mineralogy placement ranged from 5 to 173% within the same control section.
