Bio‐based tannin‐loaded layered double hydroxides in epoxy coatings for smart corrosion protection of steel in underground infrastructure

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
This study presents a sustainable smart‐coating strategy for protecting underground steel infrastructures from chloride‐induced corrosion. Zinc‐aluminum layered double hydroxides (LDHs) and tannin‐loaded LDHs (LDH–TA) were incorporated into an epoxy matrix to provide both enhanced barrier properties and active, pH‐responsive inhibition.

Opium trade and use during the Late Bronze Age: Organic residue analysis of ceramic vessels from the burials of Tel Yehud, Israel

open access: yesArchaeometry, EarlyView., 2022
Abstract Organic residue analysis was conducted on various vessels from burials at Tel Yehud, Israel. The analyses led to new reliable evidence for the presence of opioid alkaloids and their decomposition products. This research revitalizes a decades‐old discussion on the presence and function of the opium trade across a cultural region of utmost ...

Intelligent inversion analysis of dilatancy angle of surrounding rock based on the force of negative Poisson's ratio anchor cable

open access: yesDeep Underground Science and Engineering, EarlyView.
An intelligent inversion framework estimates the dilatancy angle of the surrounding rock from negative Poisson's ratio (NPR) anchor cable force histories. Numerical tunnel‐excavation simulations generate force data across a controlled dilatancy‐angle range, which are mapped to the target parameter using a sequential convolutional neural network (CNN ...

Impact of Sahelian Climate Variables on Solar Photovoltaic Output

open access: yesEnergy Science &Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Solar photovoltaic (PV) energy is a critical pathway for advancing the energy transition in the Sahel. However, PV module performance in this region is strongly constrained by extreme climatic conditions. This study investigates the effects of (1) wind speed, (2) relative humidity, (3) temperature, (4) dust deposition, and (5) solar irradiance

Creation of a Landslide Susceptibility Map Using Short‐Term Data From the July 2018 Heavy Rainfall in Southern Hiroshima Prefecture

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
This work advances landslide susceptibility mapping by incorporating short‐term trigger data with landscape susceptibility mapping. We also examine the importance of downsampling, watershed delineation and geospatial correlations in evaluating outcomes.

Soil characteristics and clay mineralogy of two subalpine forest spodosols with clay accumulation in Taiwan

open access: yes, 2012
Two Spodosols with significant spodic morphological characteristics and clay accumulation were selected from a subalpine forest region where the elevation ranges from 2400 to 2700 meters, with high precipitation and low temperatures, and cool and humid ...

Local Structures of Se and Br in Cretaceous–Paleogene Boundary Sediments and Concentration Effects of Ferrihydrite Originating From Impact Ejecta

open access: yesGeological Journal, EarlyView.
Chemical states of Se and Br atoms in the KPg boundary sediments from Stevns Klint were studied using XAFS spectroscopy. The high concentrations of Se4+ could become an index of the degree to which the global environment was soiled with dust and ash derived from impact ejecta or volcanic eruptions.

Silver geochemistry and isotope systematics in Ag-rich mine tailings from Namibia

open access: yesSoil and Water Research
In this study, we present a detailed geochemical characterisation and stable isotope systematics of silver (Ag) in a mining waste facility at the Namib Lead & Zinc mine in Namibia (Africa).
