Resource-Poor Farmers' Constraints regarding Integrated Soil Fertility and Nutrient Management for Sustainable Crop Production: A farm level study in Bangladesh [PDF]

open access: yes
Sustainable crop production requires a judicious management of soil resources and of all plant nutrient sources available in a farm or a village. The main focus of the study was to determine the constraints faced by the resource-poor farmers regarding ...

Uptake and Translocation of Heavy Metals in Maize Leaves Exposed to Atmospheric Fallout

open access: yesPlants
Atmospheric deposition is considered a source of heavy metals in plants. However, research on the uptake pathways of atmospheric particulate matter by leaves and the subsequent translocation of heavy metals within plants remains limited.

Transcription Factor Promiscuity Drives Regulatory Rewiring and Evolvability in Gene Networks in Bacteria

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
When a master transcription factor (TF) is lost, bacteria can rapidly rewire gene regulatory networks by co‐opting related regulators. Using experimental evolution in Pseudomonas fluorescens, we show that TF promiscuity (low‐level, non‐cognate binding) provides the raw material for rewiring. Successful co‐option follows a predictable hierarchy governed

Underground Signals: The Ecological Power of Root Volatiles

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Root volatiles mediate rhizosphere chemical communication, shaping interactions among plants, microbes, herbivores, and natural enemies. Their production, transport, and perception underpin ecological adaptation, multitrophic interactions, and plant resilience, offering opportunities for sustainable crop protection, resilient agroecosystems, and ...

Talking soil science with farmers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
When agricultural researchers visit farms in order to gather information for their research programmes, farmers rarely get proper feedback. Research information on scientific concepts such as soil fertility and nutrient balances is often considered too ...

The interplay of direct and mycorrhizal pathways for plants to efficiently acquire phosphorus from soil [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers of Agricultural Science and Engineering
To efficiently obtain P from soil, most terrestrial plants form symbiosis with arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi and thus have two P uptake pathways, i.e., the direct pathway (DP) via roots, particularly root hairs, and the mycorrhizal pathway (MP) via ...
