Biodegradable Wireless Soil Urea Sensor Using Metamaterial Perfect Absorber for Distributed Deployment in Precision Agriculture

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
In this study, we propose a biodegradable wireless soil urea sensor for precision agriculture. The sensor's electromagnetic response varies depending on the urea concentration, allowing the measurement of relative soil urea concentrations by analyzing the time‐transient electromagnetic response.

Biochar reduces early-stage mineralization rates of plant residues more in coarse-textured soils than in fine-textured soils – an artificial-soil approach [PDF]

open access: yesSOIL
Quantifying the impact of biochar on carbon persistence across soil textures is complex, owing to the variability in soil conditions. Using artificial soils with precise textural and mineral compositions, we can disentangle the effects of biochar from ...

Persistence and degradation of Phytophthora cinnamomi DNA and RNA in different soil types

open access: yesEnvironmental DNA, 2021
DNA and RNA detected in soil using molecular techniques may originate from a living or dead organism. It is therefore of interest to know how long the DNA and RNA from a decaying organism can persist in soil, and how environmental conditions such as soil

A Multidirectional Textile Interface for Remote Control Using Dynamic Area‐Based Capacitance Modulation

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Here, we present a textile, wearable capacitive interface enabling multidirectional remote control by dynamically modulating electrode overlap and spacing via a freely gliding upper electrode. A forearm‐mounted prototype drives robotic and media tasks with 12–15 ms latency, maintains < 0.8% drift after 500 cycles, and remains stably functional at 90 ...

Detectability and Persistence of Cyclospora cayetanensis Oocysts in Artificially Contaminated Soil and Fresh Herbs Grown Under Controlled Climatic Conditions

open access: yesPathogens
Cyclospora oocysts are thought to be highly resistant in the environment but the climatic factors which determine the presence/persistence of Cyclospora oocysts are currently unknown.

Interspecific variation in persistence of buried weed seeds follows trade‐offs among physiological, chemical, and physical seed defenses

open access: yesEcology and Evolution, 2016
Soil seedbanks drive infestations of annual weeds, yet weed management focuses largely on seedling mortality. As weed seedbanks increasingly become reservoirs of herbicide resistance, species‐specific seedbank management approaches will be essential to ...

In Vivo Microplastic Detection With Photoacoustic Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Microplastics are posing an escalating threat to both ecological systems and human health. Yet, current methods for investigating their bioaccumulation are highly invasive, requiring destructive analysis of ex vivo tissues via mass spectrometry, dye labelling, or Raman microspectroscopy.
