The physical properties of a soil give insight as to the identification of the soil and the determination of its characteristics and load response. These properties can be determined by performing a laboratory analysis on undisturbed soil samples obtained during the test boring process, as described in Article 3–6.

Peatlands have been degraded due to human activities. This thesis explored soil hydro-physical properties and their spatial characteristics from different peatlands in Germany. Spatial variability of soil properties differed with investigated properties and peatland degradation stages.
