Quantifying the Contribution of Sediment Load to Soil Detachment Rate by Sediment-Laden Rill Flow

open access: yes, 2017
Sediment load changes with downslope distance during rill erosion process, and thus quantifying the potential contribution of sediment load on soil detachment rate is essential to accurately model the rill erosion process.

ATP‐Mediated Bidirectional Communication Between Natural and Artificial Cells for Controlled Bioreactions

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Establishment of bidirectional communication behavior between natural and artificial cells. The first type of communication from natural dendritic cells to artificial polymeric cells was achieved via ATP release after cell lysis. The released ATP was taken up via gated UV‐controlled permeability increase of the polymeric membrane for performing ...

Desert Plant Inspired Hierarchical Nanofibrous Membranes for Integrated Solar Desalination and Heavy Metal Remediation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
An Alhagi maurorum inspired hierarchical composite membrane (NFCu) was developed by integrating heavy metal remediation and solar‐driven interfacial evaporation in a single platform. Beyond the photothermal effect, a localized photocatalytic process is realized on the CuO surface, deepening the mechanistic understanding of light–matter–water ...

Leaftronics: Bio‐Fractal Scaffolds From Leaf Venation for Low‐Waste Electronics

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
“Leaftronics” transforms naturally evolved leaf venation into quasi‐fractal scaffolds for sustainable electronics. Polymer‐infiltrated leaf skeletons can be used to fabricate ultra‐smooth, reflow‐ and thin‐film‐compatible decomposable substrates, while making the same lignocellulose networks conducting results in flexible transparent electrodes.
