Carbon sequestration in clay and silt fractions of Brazilian soils under conventional and no-tillage systems

open access: yesScientia Agricola, 2014
The capacity of soils to sequestrate carbon (C) is mainly related to the formation of organo-mineral complexes. In this study, we investigated the influence of soil management systems on the C retention capacity of soil with an emphasis on the silt and ...

Metabologenomic Hallmark‐Based Discovery of Bacterial Thioamides as a New Lead against Drug‐Resistant Pancreatic Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
A targeted metabologenomic strategy integrating genomic and metabolomic hallmarks enabled the discovery of two new thioamides, thiogochangamides A and B, from bacteria. Their absolute configurations, previously unresolved within the thioviridamide family, were fully assigned through various chemical derivatizations and computational analysis ...

Geostatistical Microscale Study of Magnetic Susceptibility in Soil Profile and Magnetic Indicators of Potential Soil Pollution

open access: yesWater, Air and Soil Pollution, 2015
Directional variograms, along the soil profile, can be useful and precise tool that can be used to increase the precision of the assessment of soil pollution. The detail analysis of spatial variability in the soil profile can be also an important part of

Gut Lactate Boosts Ruminococcus via Histone Lactylation to Mediate Time‐Restricted Feeding Protection in Crohn's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
TRF enriches Ruminococcus, a bacterial genus producing SCFAs, and activates the epithelial HIF‐1α signaling pathway. This mechanism protects the colonic mucosa from inflammatory insults in colitis models. Mechanistically, gut lactate production during starvation and refeeding mediates H4K12la, which increases SLC9A3 expression and creates an acidic gut

Soil Fertility Protocol [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
The purpose of this resource is to measure the amounts of nitrogen, phosphorous and potassium in each horizon in a soil profile. Using a NPK test kit, students mix a dry, sieved soil sample into a solution and chemically extract the N, P, and K as ...

Hijacking the Host Clock: A Nematode Effector Antagonizes Soybean Circadian Defense and Translation Control

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Soybean employs its circadian clock, governed by GmCCA1, to rhythmically defend against soybean cyst nematodes. The pathogen retaliates by secreting the effector Hg4E02, which hijacks the clock to suppress defense and co‐opt the host's translation machinery for nutrient acquisition.

Effects of plastic film mulching on soil greenhouse gases (CO2, CH4 and N2O) concentration within soil profiles in maize fields on the Loess Plateau, China

open access: yesJournal of Integrative Agriculture, 2016
: To better understand the effects of plastic film mulching on soil greenhouse gases (GHGs) emissions, we compared seasonal and vertical variations of GHG concentrations at seven soil depths in maize (Zea mays L.) fields at Changwu station in Shaanxi, a ...
