Optimal Grazing Exclusion Duration to Enhance Soil Carbon Sequestration in Degraded Grasslands

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Across China, grazing exclusion reaches the national mean soil organic carbon recovery benchmark sooner in high‐MAP regions (> 500 mm), but recovery is much slower where MAP < 300 mm. Scaling this strategy to 70% of China's degraded grasslands would sequester about 1.52 Pg of soil carbon over 10 years—roughly 17% of annual global fossil‐fuel emissions.

Edge effects increase soil respiration without altering soil carbon stocks in temperate broadleaf forests

open access: yesEcosphere, 2022
Anthropogenic disturbance has left the world's forests highly fragmented, with a significant proportion of edge‐affected area. Abiotic changes at forest edges are likely to affect forest soil carbon cycling, as higher temperatures and lower moisture ...

Seasonal dynamics of soil respiration and nitrogen mineralization in chronically warmed and fertilized soils [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Although numerous studies have examined the individual effects of increased temperatures and N deposition on soil biogeochemical cycling, few have considered how these disturbances interact to impact soil C and N dynamics.

Variation in Soil Carbon Dioxide Efflux at Two Spatial Scales in a Topographically Complex Boreal Forest [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Carbon dynamics of high latitude regions are an important and highly uncertain component of global carbon budgets, and efforts to constrain estimates of soil-atmosphere carbon exchange in these regions are contingent on accurate representations of ...

Interfacial Engineering in Rare‐Earth Oxide/ZnO Heterojunctions for High‐Performance Trimethylamine Sensing and Fish Freshness Monitoring

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study realizes superior gas sensing performance via Yb2O3/ZnO heterojunction design, achieving highly sensitive/selective trimethylamine detection at room temperature while elucidating the intrinsic sensing mechanism. This innovation is applied to reliable real‐time fish freshness monitoring, paving a feasible way for translating advanced material

Soil Respiration Dynamics in Bromus erectus-Dominated Grasslands under Different Management Intensities

open access: yesAgriculture, 2019
Reduction of soil greenhouse gas emissions is crucial to control increases in atmospheric CO2 concentrations. Permanent grasslands are of considerable importance in climate change mitigation strategies as they cover about 13% of the global agricultural ...

Aktivitas Mikroorganisme Tanah Pada Tanah Bekas Kebakaran Hutan Di Kabupaten Samosir [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Forest fire affect chemical, physical and biological properties of the soils. In the biological properties of the soil, forest fire also affects number of microorganisms and activity of microorganisms.

NIR‐II Imaging‐Guided Photothermal Activation of a TRPV4‐Targeted Nanoplatform Delivering Cycloastragenol to Promote Microglia Reprogramming and α‐Synuclein Clearance in Parkinson's Disease

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Current therapies for Parkinson's disease (PD) fail to concurrently address α‐synuclein (α‐syn) aggregation and microglia‐mediated neuroinflammation. Herein, we engineer a near‐infrared‐II (NIR‐II) phototheranostic nanoplatform, CAG/FD1080@MM‐aTRPV4, for synergistic regulation of microglial function and real‐time monitoring of PD pathology. We

Respiration characteristics and its responses to hydrothermal seasonal changes in reconstructed soils

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2021
Seasonal changes in respiration and the components of four reconstructed soils (gravel + meteorite + lou; gravel + shale + lou; gravel + sand + lou; and gravel + soft rock + lou) in barren gravel land were monitored using the soil carbon flux measurement

Carbon dioxide fluxes across the Sierra de Guadarrama, Spain [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Understanding the spatial and temporal variation in soil respiration within small geographic areas is essential to accurately assess the carbon budget on a global scale.
