Neuroprotective Effects of Time‐Restricted Feeding Combined With Different Protein Sources in MPTP‐Induced Parkinson's Disease Mice Model and Its Modulatory Impact on Gut Microbiota Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Time‐restricted feeding (TRF) exerts protein‐dependent neuroprotective effects in an MPTP‐induced Parkinson's disease model. In casein‐fed mice, TRF improves gut barrier integrity and reduces neuroinflammation, possibly via modulation of Allobaculum and BCAAs.

Effects of fire disturbance on soil respiration in the non-growing season in a Larix gmelinii forest in the Daxing'an Mountains, China.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
In boreal forests, fire is an important part of the ecosystem that greatly influences soil respiration, which in turn affects the carbon balance.

Precipitation events reduce soil respiration in a coastal wetland based on four-year continuous field measurements

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Meteorology, 2018
Coastal wetlands are considered as a significant sink for global carbon because their organic-rich soils. Given exposed to shallow water tables, water from groundwater is transported upward to the root zone through capillary rise, thus soil moisture in ...

Coupled Above‐ and Belowground Ecosystem Stability Worldwide

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Are the worlds above and below our feet in sync? This global exploration reveals an entangled fate between above‐ and belowground ecosystem stability. It identifies arid regions as hotspots for this coupling and highlights temperature stability as a vital safeguard for maintaining ecosystem balance across our warming planet.

New insights into the role of microbial community composition in driving soil respiration rates

open access: yes, 2018
Microbial community plays critical roles in driving soil carbon (C) cycling in terrestrial ecosystems. However, we lack empirical evidence to demonstrate the role of microbial community in driving soil respiration - a key ecosystem process for global ...

Respiration of aged soil carbon during fall in permafrost peatlands enhanced by active layer deepening following wildfire but limited following thermokarst [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Permafrost peatlands store globally significant amounts of soil organic carbon (SOC) that may be vulnerable to climate change. Permafrost thaw exposes deeper, older SOC to microbial activity, but SOC vulnerability to mineralization and release as carbon ...

Extractable nitrogen and microbial community structure respond to grassland restoration regardless of historical context and soil composition. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Grasslands have a long history of invasion by exotic annuals, which may alter microbial communities and nutrient cycling through changes in litter quality and biomass turnover rates.

Recent Advances in Laser‐Induced Graphene‐Based Gas Sensors: From Sensing Mechanisms to Biomedical Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Laser‐induced graphene (LIG) provides a scalable, laser‐direct‐written route to porous graphene architecture with tunable chemistry and defect density. Through heterojunction engineering, catalytic functionalization, and intrinsic self‐heating, LIG achieves highly sensitive and selective detection of NOX, NH3, H2, and humidity, supporting next ...

Responses of soil respiration and its temperature/moisture sensitivity to precipitation in three subtropical forests in southern China [PDF]

open access: yesBiogeosciences, 2013
Both long-term observation data and model simulations suggest an increasing chance of serious drought in the dry season and extreme flood in the wet season in southern China, yet little is known about how changes in precipitation pattern will affect soil

Nematode migration and nutrient diffusion between vetch and barley material in soil [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
This paper deals with migration of nematodes along nutrient gradients in soil. Portions of barley straw and green vetch leaves were mixed with soil and buried at 6, 12, 18, and 50mm distance from each other in soil.
