Photocatalytic Water Splitting on the Lunar Surface: Prospects for In Situ Resource Utilization

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
Water has been found in craters on the moon nearby locations which are illuminated >80% of the time. Photocatalysis uses energy from sunlight to drive chemical reactions such as water splitting to produce oxygen and hydrogen. It is a scalable technology that requires lighter equipment and utilizes resources available on the moon. ABSTRACT The discovery

Phase Topology Stability of an Optical Vortex via an Electrically Controlled Twist‐Planar Oriented Liquid Crystal Fresnel Lens

open access: yesAdvanced Optical Materials, EarlyView.
A simple and efficient method for determining the stability of optical vortices via Fourier transform using a conventional spherical lens is presented. The theoretical and experimental results demonstrate a practical approach to directly and unambiguously measure the magnitude and sign of the topological charge of a beam without altering an ...

Statistics in soil science

open access: yes, 2005
Key points • Soil varies from place to place; statistics is a technology for describing that variation quantitatively and separating signal from noise. • Replicate sampling is required to estimate the variation in experimental material and geographic regions. • Randomization is needed to estimate mean values and their variances, and to place confidence
