Two Routes to Land: Genomic Underpinnings of Parallel Aerial Egg Deposition in Aquatic Old‐World Pila and New‐World Pomacea (Ampullariidae)

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Comparative genomics of Gondwana‐diverged Pila and Pomacea reveals parallel evolution of aerial oviposition. Convergent chromosomal rearrangements reshape regulatory landscapes within topologically associating domains. Lineage‐specific gene family expansions and viral‐derived perivitelline proteins (PV1) underpin desiccation resistance.

The Resistance of Soil Structure to Consolidation

open access: yesCanadian Geotechnical Journal, 1965
The rate at which soil specimens are compressed in the standard consolidation test is farther from reality than the rate of strain in any other test. For a short period after the application of a load increment the rate of compression may be several million times faster than that experienced in the field. This paper describes a series of tests carried

Thermally-induced buckling analysis of pipeline interacting with soil foundation [PDF]

open access: yes
Thermally-induced buckling analysis of pipeline interacting with soil foundation is studied numerically such that the pipe-soil interaction mechanism is investigated for the design of the deep-ocean pipeline.

ML Workflows for Screening Degradation‐Relevant Properties of Forever Chemicals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The environmental persistence of per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) necessitates efficient remediation strategies. This study presents physics‐informed machine learning workflows that accurately predict critical degradation properties, including bond dissociation energies and polarizability.

Achieving High‐Density and Stress‐Resilient Maize Breeding Via Germplasm Innovation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Global population growth and climate change have exacerbated the global food crisis. This perspective presents a conceptual framework focusing on enhancing population advantages. Several novel breeding objectives are proposed to improve density tolerance and stress resistance for yield improvement.

Similitude in soil-structure and soil-soil interaction

open access: yes, 2016
Scaling laws are often presented as a criterion that has to be fulfilled. For example: a pile diameter should be larger than 20 times the diameter of the grains to have similitude between the model tip force and the tip force of the corresponding prototype.
