The Non‐Understandable World of Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Therapist's Implicit Understanding and Subsequent Deepened Understanding

open access: yesJournal of Analytical Psychology, EarlyView.
Abstract This paper examines the concept of non‐understandable in psychotherapy, based on the author's own play therapy with a boy with mild ASD (autism spectrum disorder). ASD is considered to belong to an area beyond comprehension, as psychotherapy is often deemed ineffective for it.

The predatory behavior of ants: an impressive panoply of morphological adaptations

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
This review focuses on predation in ants, showing the wide diversity of cases from solitary foraging to group hunting tactics, as well as the evolution of mandible shape frequently adapted to capture specific prey. Although most ants are generalist feeders, finding their sugary substances directly on plants or indirectly via sap‐sucking insects, some ...

LsFAMeT and LsJHAMT coordinate JH biosynthesis to regulate fecundity in Laodelphax striatellus

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
The small brown planthopper (SBPH), Laodelphax striatellus, can trigger large‐scale outbreaks when encountering suitable habitats during migration due to their strong reproductive ability. This study investigated the role of juvenile hormone (JH) in regulating SBPH reproduction.

RNAi‐based functional genomics tools for the beet leafhopper using microinjection and nanoparticle‐based topical spray

open access: yesInsect Science, EarlyView.
• First demonstration of functional RNAi in the beet leafhopper, Neoaliturus tenellus, using both dsRNA microinjection and star polycation nanoparticle‐mediated topical spray delivery.•Microinjection achieved over 90% knockdown of Gus and Pum3, revealing gene‐specific fitness effects on survival and fecundity in beet leafhopper.•Nanoparticle‐mediated ...

Effects of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination on soil water retention capacity

open access: yesNext Sustainability
To investigate the differences in soil moisture characteristic curves resulting from varying degrees of petroleum hydrocarbon contamination, we used a centrifuge and pressure membrane apparatus to measure the soil moisture characteristic curves of two ...

Neonicotinoid seed treatments do not consistently reduce insect feeding damage nor increase yields in Maryland soy

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
We compared soybean plants from untreated and treated seeds across 4 sites and 3 years in Maryland. Neonicotinoid seed treatments (NST) provided little reduction in insect stippling damage and no reduction in chewing damage. NST did not result in increased plant biomass or bean yield. Abstract The use of neonicotinoid insecticides in seed treatments in

Variability of polymer for determination of soil-water characteristic curves

open access: yesJournal of Rock Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering
Unsaturated soil mechanics is crucial in understanding ground conditions and constructing geotechnical structures, particularly amidst the challenges posed by global climate change. Nevertheless, acquiring accurate soil suction values remains challenging

Evidence for positive population‐level responses but not individual performance of sycamore aphids under elevated CO2

open access: yesAgricultural and Forest Entomology, EarlyView.
The abundance and density of three common sycamore aphids increased under elevated CO2, although this was only statistically significant for Drepanosiphum platanoidis. The number of nymphs produced by individual D. platanoidis alates isolated in clip cages was not significantly affected, suggesting that population level response was not driven by ...

‘Talk to Us, Not About Us’: Children's Understandings and Experiences of Participation in Australian Family Law

open access: yesChild &Family Social Work, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT A hive of recent policy and legislative activity in Australian family law has emphasized the importance of children's right to participate in decision‐making following parental separation. Yet a powerful tension persists between supporting children's right to participation and protecting children from parental conflict.

Effects of soil moisture content and installation method on ultimate bearing capacity of pile in unsaturated silty sand

open access: yesResults in Engineering
The load-bearing capacity of a pile embedded in unsaturated soil depends mainly on the matric suction present in the soil. Changes in this parameter directly influence pile performance.
