Determination of 10 Trace Elements in Kaolin by ICP-MS with Microwave Digestion

open access: yesYankuang ceshi, 2022
BACKGROUND As an important aluminosilicate, trace element contents affect the performance of the product. The kaolin standard substances GBW03121, GBW03122, GBW03122a lack the recommended values of ten elements such as arsenic and antimony.

Assessment of different pools of organic carbon for better C management in cotton-growing shrink-swell soils of Jalgaon district, Maharashtra

open access: yesThe Indian Journal of Agricultural Sciences, 2016
Information on dynamics of soil organic carbon (SOC) in agricultural soils is important for sustained crop productivity, maintenance of soil health and alleviating the climate related stress.

Terrain-Integrated Soil Mapping Units (SMUs) for Precision Nutrient Management: A Case Study from Semi-Arid Tropics of India

open access: yesNDT - Journal of Non-Destructive Testing
This study presents a terrain-integrated Soil Management Unit (SMU) framework for precision agriculture in semi-arid tropical basaltic soils. Using high resolution (10-ha grid) sampling across 4627 geo-referenced locations and machine learning-enhanced ...

Evolutionarily divergent DUF4465 domains have a common vitamin B12‐binding function

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
We show that DUF4465 family proteins, widespread across bacteria from gut microbiomes, hydrothermal vents, and soil, share a common vitamin B12‐binding function. These augmented β‐jellyroll proteins bind vitamin B12 via extended loops. Our findings establish sequence‐diverse DUF4465 proteins as a widespread class of B12‐binding proteins, highlighting ...

Transcripts enriched in codons that trigger P‐site tRNA‐mediated mRNA decay possess stable mRNA

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
PTMD codons were first described by Mendel et al. as mediators of an mRNA decay pathway dependent on the human protein CNOT3, homologous to yeast Not5. Our findings confirm that PTMD codons destabilize transcripts; however, unlike in yeast, the human pathway specifically targets and slightly destabilizes primarily stable mRNAs.

How phagocytic cells kill bacteria: Lessons from a professional killer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
How phagocytic cells ingest and kill bacteria has been studied for more than a century, but many questions remain unanswered. The study of the amoeba Dictyostelium discoideum brings new answers, and new questions. Professional phagocytic cells such as neutrophils and macrophages, as well as free‐living soil amoebae like Dictyostelium discoideum, employ

Foxnut (makhana): a productive and economic crop providing good niche for soil carbon storage and stability in lower Gangetic wetlands

open access: yesScientific Reports
Commercial crop Foxnut (makhana) cultivation is being popularized for the productive utilization of wetlands in eastern India. Here, the impact of two different cropping on organic C (OC) stock, stability, exogenous C input by crops, system yield, and ...
