Response of Soil Temperature to Soil Moisture Content and Meteorological Elements with Gravel-Sand Mulching

open access: yesLand
Soil gravel–sand mulching—an ancient farming method in arid areas—is used to cope with drought by conserving water and improving soil temperature, the latter being a key factor affecting agricultural production.

Advancing Research on Biomaterials and Biological Materials with Scanning Electron Microscopy under Environmental and Low Vacuum Conditions

open access: yesAdvanced Engineering Materials, EarlyView.
Herein, environmental scanning electron microscopy (ESEM) is discussed as a powerful extension of conventional SEM for life sciences. By combining high‐resolution imaging with variable pressure and humidity, ESEM allows the analysis of untreated biological materials, supports in situ monitoring of hydration‐driven changes, and advances the functional ...

In Situ Constructed Magnetic Core‐Shell Hydrogen‐Bonded Organic Framework‐on‐Metal–Organic Framework Structure: an Efficient Catalyst for Peroxymonosulfate Activation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
In this work, a magnetic core‐shell catalyst (HOF‐on‐Fe3O4/ZIF‐67) is successfully synthesized, consisting of a metal–organic framework (ZIF‐67) with magnetic Fe3O4 as the core and a porous hydrogen‐bonded organic framework (HOF) as the shell. The catalyst efficiently activated peroxymonosulfate, resulting in rapid and effective removal of water ...

Printed Integrated Logic Circuits Based on Chitosan‐Gated Organic Transistors for Future Edible Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Edible electronics needs integrated logic circuits for computation and control. This work presents a potentially edible printed chitosan‐gated transistor with a design optimized for integration in circuits. Its implementation in integrated logic gates and circuits operating at low voltage (0.7 V) is demonstrated, as well as the compatibility with an ...

Soil temperature and citrus: Low soil temperature contributes to low number of roots under citrus trees in some areas of southern California

open access: yesCalifornia Agriculture, 1955
Low soil temperatures—causing low root temperatures—induced foliage wilt in glasshouse experiments with several citrus species on various rootstocks.

Changes in the concentration of CO2 in forest soils resulting from the traffic of logging machines

open access: yesJournal of Forest Science
The aim of the study was to find out whether and how the forest soil compaction resulting from the traffic of forest logging machines results in the increased soil air concentration of CO2, occurring over a longer period of time and in different seasons ...

Indicadores da condição hídrica do solo com soja em plantio direto e preparo convencional Indicators of soil water condition for soy bean under no-tillage and conventional tillage

Concept of soil temperature coefficient for determining spatial distribution of soil temperature, using physiographic parameters of the basin and artificial neural network (ANN) [PDF]

open access: yesActa Scientiarum Polonorum. Formatio Circumiectus, 2018
The paper presents the concept of soil temperature coefficient, as a ratio of soil temperature in the given point on the area of a basin and soil temperature in the basal point located within the watershed.

Rising soil temperature in China and its potential ecological impact

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
Global warming influences a series of ecological processes and ecosystems’ stability. Although comprehensive studies have been done to investigate responses of various ecosystem processes to rising air temperatures, less is known about changes in soil ...

Laser‐Induced Graphene from Waste Almond Shells

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Almond shells, an abundant agricultural by‐product, are repurposed to create a fully bioderived almond shell/chitosan composite (ASC) degradable in soil. ASC is converted into laser‐induced graphene (LIG) by laser scribing and proposed as a substrate for transient electronics.
