Comparison of classic time series and artificial intelligence models, various Holt-Winters hybrid models in predicting the monthly flow discharge in Marun dam reservoir

open access: yesApplied Water Science, 2023
In this study, the data at Idenak hydrometric station were used to predict the inflow to Maroun Dam reservoir. For this purpose, different models such as artificial intelligence, Holt-Winters and hybrid models were used.

Nanoscale soil-water retention mechanism of unsaturated clay via MD and machine learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
In this article, we investigate the nanoscale soil-water retention mechanism of unsaturated clay through molecular dynamics and machine learning. Pyrophyllite was chosen due to its stable structure and as the precursor of other 2:1 clay minerals. A series of molecular dynamics simulations of clay at low degrees of saturation were conducted.

Soil and water conservation

open access: yesEos, Transactions American Geophysical Union, 1976
Water has been called ubiquitous, which may be a small exaggeration, but it is no exaggeration to say that it is intimately associated with soil. In the never‐ending hydrologic cycle, rain falls upon the soil, and whether the soil is shielded by vegetation or otherwise protected is much of what soil and water conservation is all about. The story of soil

An easily implemented agro-hydrological procedure with dynamic root simulation for water transfer in the crop–soil system: validation and application [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
Models for water transfer in the crop–soil system are key components of agro-hydrological models for irrigation, fertilizer and pesticide practices. Many of the hydrological models for water transfer in the crop–soil system are either too approximate due

Superlubricious Surfaces Through Surface Attached Hydrogels Obtained by C,H‐insertion Crosslinking

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Taking synovial joints as a source of inspiration, the friction properties of surfaces covered with 1d‐swelling polyelectrolyte hydrogels in combination with a shear‐thinning aqueous lubricant are studied. Such systems obtained by C,H insertion crosslinking show superlubricious behavior, even surpassing the friction values reported for the natural ...

Vibration-Induced Conductivity Fluctuation Measurement for Soil Bulk Density Analysis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Soil bulk density affects water storage, water and nutrient movement, and plant root activity in the soil profile. Its measurement is difficult in field conditions. Vibration-induced conductivity fluctuation was investigated to quantify soil bulk density with possible field applications in the future. The AC electrical conductivity of soil was measured

The impact of rain water on soil pore networks following irrigation with saline-sodic water [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
The soil pore network is an important factor affecting soil hydraulic conductivity (Ksat). In this study we examine the effect on the soil pore network of a Red Ferrosol caused by irrigation with good quality irrigation water (GQW), as well as saline ...

A model for water uptake by plant roots. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
We present a model for water uptake by plant roots from unsaturated soil. The model includes the simultaneous flow of water inside the root network and in the soil.

All‐Cellulose‐Based Photonic Glitters

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Uniform, disc‐shaped photonic CNC glitters with adjustable structural colors and diameters are fabricated on hydrophilic ethyl cellulose films using electrospray deposition. By employing patterned ethyl cellulose films with pre‐designed hydrophilic regions, photonic patterns can be created with these all‐cellulose‐based glitters, demonstrating their ...

Dark oxidation of water in soils [PDF]

open access: yesTellus B: Chemical and Physical Meteorology, 2013
We report the release of oxygen (O2) under dark conditions in aerobic soils. This unexpected process is hidden by respiration which constitutes the dominating reversal O2 flux. By using H218O in different soils, we confirmed that 16O18O and 18O2 released under dark soil conditions originated from added H218O.
