Water repellency reduces soil CO2 efflux upon rewetting [PDF]

open access: yesScience of The Total Environment, 2020
Carbon dioxide (CO2) efflux from soil represents one of the biggest ecosystem carbon (C) fluxes and high-magnitude pulses caused by rainfall make a substantial contribution to the overall C emissions. It is widely accepted that the drier the soil, the larger the CO2 pulses will be, but this notion has never been tested for water-repellent soils.

Mechanistic Insights Into Photocatalytic Materials for Toxic Pollutants: Environmental Remediation of Personal Care Products

open access: yesAsia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Photocatalytic materials have emerged as promising solutions for environmental applications due to their ability to degrade organic pollutants under sunlight or artificial light. In this review, recent progress on the photocatalytic materials used for the degradation of pharmaceutical personal care products (PPCPs) in environmental ...

The water repellency of earthworm (Lumbricus terrestris) casts depends on their particle size composition, organic carbon content and calcium carbonate content

open access: yesSoil and Water Research
At the soil level, earthworms are key indicators of water-related processes which help soils to accept, retain, release and transmit water by influencing the soil structure through their burrowing, casts, and drilosphere.

Buffer zone water repellency: effects of the management practice [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Water repellency index R was measured in a heavy clay and a sandy loam, used as arable land or buffer zone (BZ). Further, effect of management practise and ageing of BZs were studied.

Effect of Biochar Application on Physicochemical and Hydraulic Properties of Loess

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering, 2020
Biochar is important for optimizing soil physical structure and improving soil water retention. The saturated water capacity test, water repellency test, and permeability coefficient test were used to study the effects of biochar additive amount (0, 2, 5,

Ferrihydrite coating reduces microplastic induced soil water repellency

open access: yesEnvironmental Science: Processes & Impacts, 2023
Addition of microplastics (MP) to soil has the potential to increase soil water repellency. Absorption of soil abundant substances on MP surfaces has the potential to overcome MP inherent hydrophobicity.

Evaluation of Agave angustifolia as a Sustainable Alternative to Synthetic Pesticides: Phytochemical Composition and Multi‐Trophic Bioactivity

open access: yesFlavour and Fragrance Journal, EarlyView.
The pesticidal potential of Agave angustifolia by assessing its anti‐nematic, antimicrobial, and insecticidal activities, alongside phytochemical profiling. ABSTRACT Plant diseases caused by fungi, bacteria, nematodes, and viruses contribute significantly to annual crop losses and economic hardship. Reliance on chemical pesticides, over a thousand used
