A method for estimating maximum static rainfall retention in pebble mulches used for soil moisture conservation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Mulching of agricultural fields and gardens with pebbles has long been practiced to conserve soil moisture in some semi-arid regions with low precipitation. Rainfall interception by the pebble mulch itself is an important part of the computation of

Comparison Of Selected Pedotransfer Functions For The Determination Of Soil Water Retention Curves

open access: yesSlovak Journal of Civil Engineering, 2015
Soil water retention curves were measured using a sandbox and the pressure plate extractor method on undisturbed soil samples from the Borská Lowland. The basic soil properties (e.g. soil texture, dry bulk density) of the samples were determined.

Effects of Soil Conditioners on The Improvement of Water Retentivity of Masa-soil

open access: yesJournal of the Japanese Institute of Landscape Architects, 1985

ML Workflows for Screening Degradation‐Relevant Properties of Forever Chemicals

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The environmental persistence of per‐ and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) necessitates efficient remediation strategies. This study presents physics‐informed machine learning workflows that accurately predict critical degradation properties, including bond dissociation energies and polarizability.

Fabric and clay activity in soil water retention behaviour

open access: yesE3S Web of Conferences, 2016
Modelling the water retention behaviour requires proper understanding of all the processes which affect the amount of water stored in the pore network, depending on the soil state and the soil history.

Nanoscale Secondary Ion Mass Spectrometry for Quantifying Membrane Fouling: Fouling Layer Structure and Chemical Interaction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Nanoscale secondary ion mass spectrometry (Nano SIMS) is established as a powerful analytical tool to visualize and quantify the membrane fouling layers. ABSTRACT Membrane technology has garnered considerable attention for applications in wastewater treatment and resource recovery. Nevertheless, membrane fouling remains a major barrier, yet the lack of

Evaluation of a Natural Superabsorbent Polymer on Water Retention Capacity in Coarse-Textured Soils [PDF]

open access: yes
Water availability, a vital factor in agriculture, is being threatened by shortages caused by droughts, desertification, and climate change. In this context, hydrogels, polymers with high water absorption and retention capacity, emerge as key solutions ...

Experimental Study on Determining Unsaturated Property of Soil [PDF]

open access: yes, 1980
This paper deals with the experimental study of hydraulic properties of unsaturated soil. In treating unsaturated zone, a great deal more data are required than are required for the saturated zone, but these properties of soils must be known to apply the
