Performance evaluation of models that describe the soil water retention curve between saturation and oven dryness

open access: yes, 2008
The objective of this work was to evaluate eight closed-form unimodal analytical expressions that describe the soil-water retention curve across the complete range of soil water contents. To meet this objective, the eight models were compared in terms of

Effects of Cement Treatment on Water Retention Behavior and Collapse Potential of Gypseous Soils: Experimental Investigation and Prediction Models

open access: yesAdvances in Civil Engineering
Gypseous soil poses a significant challenge in geotechnical engineering due to its susceptibility to collapse under saturation. This type of soil covers approximately 33% of regions in Iraq, primarily in unsaturated conditions.

Thermally Processable, Transparent, Mechanically Tunable and Robust Bioplastics From Wastepaper

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Unlike conventional inefficient or low‐value wastepaper recycling, a directional transformation strategy is employed to convert whole wastepaper into intact bioplastics with tunable mechanical properties in our work. These bioplastics can be processed into flexible bags or rigid containers and exhibit high transparency, water resistance, repairability,

Closed‐Loop Radiative Cooling Mulch Upcycled From Agricultural Residues for Efficient Soil Heat–Water Stress Mitigation

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Conventional passive radiative cooling films rely on costly feedstocks and energy‐intensive fabrication, with poor end‐of‐life compatibility in agriculture. To address this challenge, a sustainable radiative cooling mulch (SRCM) is developed from waste maize leaves via spontaneous hydrogen‐bond self‐assembly.

Solar‐Driven Bifunctional Adsorption‐Storage Films for Ultra‐Fast Dehumidification and Freshwater Supply in Low‐carbon Buildings

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Bifunctional adsorption‐storage films enable autonomous indoor humidity regulation and freshwater harvesting, rapidly decreasing relative humidity from 90.7% to 21.6% within one hour while producing 1.1 kg·m−2·day−1 of water, offering a passive route towards energy‐efficient humidity control and sustainable indoor environments. ABSTRACT Indoor humidity

Influence of the centrifugation time in the soil-water retention curve in Cerrado soils

open access: yes, 2002
O período de centrifugação, necessário ao equilíbrio da umidade no solo, é fator determinante da precisão da curva de retenção de umidade. O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar o efeito do período de centrifugação na curva de retenção de umidade em cinco

Reducing uncertainties and improving sand soil-water retention curve (SWRC) predictions for hazard screening analyses

open access: yes, 2019
An energy-based laboratory-testing program was undertaken to investigate the effects of different testing methods, numerical model fits, and soil fabrics and densities on the soil-water retention curve (SWRC) using a poorly graded sand.

Replacing nitrogen in mineral fertilizers with nitrogen in maize straw increases soil water-holding capacity

open access: yesScientific Reports
Soil water-holding capacity decreases due to long-term mineral fertilizer application. The objective of this study was to determine how replacing mineral fertilizer with maize straw affected the soil water retention curve, soil water content, soil water ...

Stiffness‐Activated Stellate Cells Drive Pancreatic Cancer Liver Colonization via GMFG‐TNS4 Signaling

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Fibrotic liver stiffness activates hepatic stellate cells through Piezo1‐dependent calcium influx and ER stress, promoting EV‐associated GMFG release. Delivered GMFG engages TNS4 in pancreatic cancer cells, triggering FAK/AKT signaling, adhesion, and fatty acid synthesis.
