Biphasic Extraction of Selected Heavy Metals From Corn With the Aid of Kosmotropic Salts

open access: yesAnalytical Science Advances, Volume 7, Issue 2, December 2026.
ABSTRACT This study investigated the use of aqueous two‐phase extraction (ATPE) with kosmotropic salts for the extraction of toxic heavy metals from maize. Heavy metals, such as cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr) and iron (Fe), are harmful to human health because they accumulate in the food chain and may cause kidney damage, cancer and nervous system problems.

Spatially resolved 23Na magnetic resonance dispersion measurement in porous media

open access: yesThe Canadian Journal of Chemical Engineering, Volume 104, Issue 8, Page 4135-4150, August 2026.
Quantitative 23Na MRI was employed to analyze dispersion in realistic core plug samples and was compared with the conventional breakthrough curve. 23Na MRI provided a more effective aassessment of core plug heterogeneity than the conventional method. Abstract Tracer tests are widely used in the petroleum industry to assess reservoir core plugs, relying

The use of activated carbon derived from spent coffee grounds as a reusable, sustainable, and effective solution for the removal of butylparaben from water

open access: yesJournal of Chemical Technology &Biotechnology, Volume 101, Issue 8, Page 1547-1558, August 2026.
Abstract BACKGROUND Parabens, including butylparaben (BP), are widely used as antimicrobial preservatives in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceuticals, yet are poorly removed by conventional water treatment processes and pose potential risks to aquatic life and human health.

Cultural geography of heat: Artistic experiments with heat’s animacies

open access: yesGeographical Research, Volume 64, Issue 3, August 2026.
A sustained, cultural geographical engagement with heat is long overdue. I advance this agenda by engaging with the work of contemporary artists. Artists are responding to uneven conditions of global heating by exploring heat’s animacies: how heat interweaves with the practices and textures of life.
