The effect of vegetation patterns on Aeolian mass flux at regional scale: a wind tunnel study [PDF]
Although insight on the effect of vegetation pattern on Aeolian mass transport is essential for re-planting degraded land, only limited knowledge on this effect is available.

Zinc oxide/graphene oxide (ZnO/GO) nanocomposites serve as a gas‐sensitive film for ammonia sensing and as high‐performance electrode materials in supercapacitors, simultaneously. A wearable contact‐separated triboelectric nanogenerator is designed to directly drive the ZnO/GO nanocomposites‐based ammonia sensor.

Biomass production and management practices in mixed crop-livestock systems in the west African Sahel: Opportunities and constraints [PDF]
The Sahel is characterized by a marked inter-annual climate variability and has experienced a number of food security crises following the severe droughts during the 1970s and 1980s.

Two-level model for land degradation mapping on multispectral satellite imagery [PDF]
Two-level model for land degradation mapping on multispectral satellite imagery of low and medium spatial resolution is shown. First level model applies several different thematic classifications of source multispectral images, e.g. vegetation change,

Modelling Hot Spots of Soil Loss by Wind Erosion (SoLoWind) in Western Saxony, Germany [PDF]
Land Degradation and Development published by John Wiley & Sons, Ltd. While it needs yet to be assessed whether or not wind erosion in Western Saxony is a major point of concern regarding land degradation and fertility, it has already been recognized ...

Deformation Driven Suction Cups: A Mechanics‐Based Approach to Wearable Electronics
Deformation‐driven suction cups enable robust, reversible adhesion of wearable electronics to human skin spanning wide mechanical compliance, without adhesives or tight straps. By integrating mechanics modeling, experiments, and contact mechanics theory, this work reveals how cup geometry, substrate compliance, and interfacial adhesion govern suction ...

The Influence of Soil Properties on the Wind Erosion Rate at Different Regions of Kerman Province
Wind erosion is known as one of the most important land degradation aspects, particularly in arid and semi-arid regions. Soil properties, by affecting soil erodibility, can control the wind erosion rate.

Wind erosion in semiarid landscapes: Predictive models and remote sensing methods for the influence of vegetation [PDF]
Wind erosion in semi-arid regions is a significant problem for which the sheltering effect of rangeland vegetation is poorly understood. Individual plants may be considered as porous roughness elements which absorb or redistribute the wind's momentum ...
