Metal nanostructure‐coupled label‐free localized surface plasmon resonance biosensors for rapid and sensitive disease diagnosis

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
LSPR biosensing enables rapid, sensitive, and low‐sample‐volume detection of biomarkers, with broad applications in diagnosing cancer, infectious, and chronic diseases. Advances in nanostructure design, micro/nanofabrication, and microfluidic integration have expanded the potential of LSPR sensors in biomedical diagnostics.

Bifunctional injectable selenium‐containing polyurethane hydrogels for periodontal regeneration through endoplasmic reticulum stress modulation

open access: yesBMEMat, EarlyView.
Graphical illustration of the synthesis, biological functions and mechanisms of bifunctional injectable selenium‐containing polyurethane hydrogels. Abstract Periodontitis causes progressive destruction of both periodontal soft and hard tissues, leading to tooth loss and functional impairment.

Fullerenes in Sol-Gel Materials

Journal of Sol-Gel Science and Technology, 2001
The family of fullerene molecules is composed of a large variety of compounds that have been synthesized following the discovery of C60 in 1985. The chemistry of fullerenes, developed in these last years, has allowed designing the properties of this family of molecules for specific applications in materials science.

Sol−Gel Capillary Microextraction

Analytical Chemistry, 2002
Sol-gel capillary microextraction (sol-gel CME) is introduced as a viable solventless extraction technique for the preconcentration of trace analytes. To our knowledge, this is the first report on the use of sol-gel-coated capillaries in analytical microextraction.

Sol ‐ gel transition in biopolymers

Makromolekulare Chemie. Macromolecular Symposia, 1991
AbstractRheological measurements have been performed on pectin biopolymers close to the sol‐gel transition. From these measurements scaling exponents were determined independently for the viscosity, s = 0.82(5), for the elastic modulus, t = 1.93(8), for the frequency‐dependent modulus, Δ = 0.71(2), and for the relaxation times below and above the ...

Sol-Gel Glass Waveguides

Journal of Sol-Gel Science and Technology, 1997
Sol-gel processes show many promises for the development of low-loss, high-performance glass integrated optical circuits. Special attention is being paid to the preparation of composite glass films, where the properties of organic or inorganic dopant compounds included in the glass matrix are fully exploited.

Sol-Gel Ionics

Solid State Ionics, 1992
Abstract The sol-gel synthesis of metal oxides offers new possibilities in the field of solid state ionics. The chemical design of molecular precursors allows a better control of the polymerization process so that taylor-made materials could be obtained.

Immunoassays in Sol-Gel Matrices

Journal of Sol-Gel Science and Technology, 1996
Parasites have been encapsulated within sol-gel silica matrices. Thermoporometry measurements show that the pore size depends strongly on experimental conditions. Pores as large as 100 A in diameter can be obtained, allowing the diffusion of large biomolecules such as immunoglobulins.

Sol–gel preparation of borosilicates

Journal of Non-Crystalline Solids, 1999
Abstract Polyborosiloxanes as a precursor for borosilicate gel plates and fibers were obtained by the reaction of silicic acid and boron tri- n -butoxide followed by alkoxylation with 1-butanol. Gel fibers were prepared after concentration and aging of the polymer solutions with molar ratios of silicic acid to boron tri- n -butoxide of 7/3–2/3 ...

Sol-gel Wood Preservation

2016
The sol–gel-based modification of wood introduces chemical substances into wood in order to improve its characteristics and impart new properties. It stabilizes dimensions of wood (timber) components, increases its strength and resistance to water, and reduces cracking. Many sol–gel-based impregnations aim to protect against wood rot and fire.
