The Sol–Gel Process, a Green Method Used to Obtain Hybrid Materials Containing Phosphorus and Zirconium

open access: yesGels
The sol–gel process is a green method used in the last few decades to synthesize new organic–inorganic phosphorus-containing hybrid materials. The sol–gel synthesis is a green method because it takes place in mild conditions, mostly by using water or ...

Bioinspired Stabilization of Fluorescent Au@SiO2 Tracers for Multimodal Biological Imaging

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates a bioinspired stabilization strategy for fluorescent gold‐silica nanoparticles. Inspired by natural biosilica maturation, high‐temperature calcination transforms the silica shells, preventing dissolution in cell culture media and intracellular environments.

Liquid Phase Transmission Electron Microscopy: A Window into the Early Stages of Complex Material Formation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Liquid‐phase transmission electron microscopy enables direct observation of nucleation and growth processes in solution. This review is dedicated to the remembrance of Helmut Cölfen and highlights recent studies on complex materials—oxides, biominerals, organic–inorganic crystals—which were central to his research activity. It summarizes key milestones,

Study on Crystallization and Magnetic Property Deviation of Ni-Zn-Cu Ferrite Depending on the State of the Starting Material in the Annealing Process

open access: yesAdvances in Materials Science and Engineering, 2017
The spinel structure of the nanosize powder (Ni0.3Zn0.3Cu0.4Fe2O4) substituted by Ni, Zn, and Cu was fabricated by the sol-gel process. Changes in weight, crystal formation, and magnetic properties were observed by XRD, TG-DTA, VSM in the annealing ...

Effect of cerium concentration on corrosion resistance and polymerization of hybrid sol–gel coating on martensitic stainless steel [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Stainless steels are increasingly used in the aeronautics field for the manufacture of structural parts. One of them, the X13VD martensitic stainless steel (X12CrNiMoV12-3), known for its good mechanical properties, has a poor corrosion resistance in ...

Microenvironmental Reprogramming by 3D Anisotropic Cardiac Extracellular Matrix Induces Nuclear Remodeling and Epigenetic Maturation of Chemically Induced Cardiomyocytes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
A 3D anisotropic hydrogel derived from heart extracellular matrix guides cytoskeletal alignment and nuclear remodeling in reprogrammed cardiomyocyte‐like cells. This study reveals how matrix alignment modulates nuclear envelope dynamics and chromatin state, triggering transcriptional and functional maturation.
